Master & Commander CE packaging
Well folks, just got my 2-disc Master & Commander CE copy on Friday, and while the over-all packaging look is great, the material is lousey. The least they could have done is to laminate the material to make it a little more durable.
Before getting it and seeing the picture of it on the other M&C thread, I was comparing it to the Tombstone Vista Series set. It's basically the same. Outer slip cover over a double-digipak. But the construct of the M&C set just leaves my shaking my head. And isn't the booklet pouch on the wrong side? In the earlier pic it was on the right-most flap. In this one, it's on the left-most flap.

Oh, I like'em too, but this one appears that it may not hold up well if used often.
I find it awkward that the booklet pouch is on the left flap. This sort of thing is ALWAYS on the right. Why? Because so that you can access the movie disc without having to contort the package so that the booklet material won't slip out.

The booklet should be in it. It actually rattles a little when you shake the package.

count me in as well, as disappointed in the grade of cardstock they used for the slipcase.
it's a nice case, beautifully designed, but its just a little too flimsy for the weight/size of the digipak.

I'm fine with my case. Holds everything exactly as it should.

I'm very happy with the packaging. Its actually an improvement on the Fox SE/CE re-releases (like Fight Club, which use rather flimsy paper for the slipcover. Same goes for the Warner 2-disc SE.
I think the M&C packaging is second only to the seriously thick LOTR EE sets.

It's on the left in the Lord of the Rings EEs, all Fox digipaks, CTS's 3-disc editions, etc.
Even keepcases put the insert on the left.

Booklets are almost always on the left pouch in a digipak. I can't think of a single release where it's on the right.

I do agree that this package has become an annoyance because the items keep falling out of the pouch.
There are entire companies who specialize in package design and usability. It would do the DVD and digipack industry some good to hire some consultants to analyze their design concepts before putting them into production.

Unlike the Schindler's List pouch, the Master & Commander booklet holder is sealed at the bottom. I just use the slightest bit of care when opening the case and have had no problems.
Of course, I also have that extra Best Buy disc in the same slot which holds everything a little more taut.

what do people do with their DVDs and their covers anyway? i never really understood these kind of rants.. i've had DVDs for nearly 4 years now and even my very oldest DVDs that came in cardboard packaging, like Fight Club is still pristine. it's not like i lock my DVDs in a vault either.

I mentioned this in the other M$C thread. The texture and design are very nice, but it's pretty thin material.
Also about the contents being a little loose (compared to other digipacks), you think this is FOX trying to make it look more impressive to consumers? (too much room for the booklets, loose-fitting box)
Kinda like Universal giving the 2-disc Red Dragon a double-wide alpha(lol!)
Thats my theory...
