Exorcist III Director's Cut
Courtesy of DavisDVD and captainhowdy.com...
Fresh on the heels of recent E:TB prequel news, long-time CaptainHowdy.com supporter Greg Mielcarz from Morgan Creek has dropped an exclusive bombshell on the Exorcist Fan Forums!
After ready through our forum and seeing how eager Exorcist fans were for a Legion v2 DVD feature Blatty's original cut, Greg shot Mr. Blatty an email.
Two hours later Greg got a call from an enthusiastic Blatty: "YESS!!!!!!!!!"
Footage will be dug up, restored and die-hard Exorcist fans will get to see Legion how Blatty intended. The Director's Cut Legion DVD IS HAPPENING, it would seem! Obviously this is breaking news and will develop over the coming days/weeks.

Probably will not even watch II.

I really enjoyed Exorcist III and think it's underrated. While the current transfer looks good, I am always open to a potentially better looking transfer --- and a director's cut --- makes this a sure purchase for me.

Exorcist II on the other hand, is a disaster, best to pretend that it doesn't exist...

I agree about Exorcist 2 being just flat out terrible. Good new with the directors cut of Exorcist 3, glad I didn't buy it yet.

Considering that up until now Exorcist 3 has been a mainstay in the WalMart $5.50 bin, this is even more hugely surprising.
Hopefully it will be available for rental, as I would want to rent this one first.
Should be interesting!

Probably gonna get flamed here but what the hey........
If we get a Director's Cut of E3 (hopefully, it'll get renamed back to Legion), there could be little or no connection to the Exorcist.
Legion was never intended to be a sequel to the Exorcist, other that to use a couple of the same characters. It was the studios who insisted on marketing it as an Exorcist sequel in order to cash in on the original.
Blatty did intend to do a sort of trilogy but the three films were:
The Exorcist
The Ninth Configuration
Legion
I think Blatty said in one of his commentaries that the thread that connects them is the question of the existence of God and belief in the afterlife.
Of the three, The Ninth Configuration has alway been my favourite and definitely needs a special edition. I am looking forward to a DC of Legion though.
AFAIK; Blatty had nothing to do with Exorcist II but I could be wrong

I haven't seen part 2 in a long, long time and can't remember anything about it. I didn't pick it up because pretty much everyone says it sucked, but I just might rent it out of curiosity.

Alternate Versions for
Exorcist III, The (1990)
Some European prints are rumored to include a scene depicting the violent killing of a priest, removed from the US version after unsuccessful sneak previews. A shot from this scene, showing the beheaded priest sitting on a bench and holding his own head in his lap, can be seen in the French publicity stills.
A scene where a character has different heads quickly edited in a strobbing effect appears in a trailer for the film, but not in the film itself.
