Todd, both LE versions of Larry the Arab and Kwai are out of print.

They're still pretty well stocked at retailers, but retailers cannot order more inventory if they run out.
Are you sure they're Out of Print?

Overstock is not like your traditional retailer. They do not attempt to keep full stock of all currently in-print titles. They take what they get in closeout deals and then liquidate them. Thus, the "Low-Stock" warning on any of their products should not be taken as an indicator of the availability of a product in the general marketplace.
What do you think they mean by "close out"?

Overstock.com takes remaining out-of-print DVDs and liquidates them, and when they're gone they're gone.

The 2-disc LE of LoA (and Kwai, for that matter) is NOT OOP, and is readily available for purchase at most well-stocked retail locations. Also, as mentioned, both are available for enrollment at the Columbia House DVD Club.
For the last time, yes, both titles are out of print and have been for months. While some retailers still have copies in stock, there's no way of knowing when they'll run out.

I have not seen any indication that Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge on the River Kwai are out of print. It's been a common misconception that these are OOP ever since the single disc version of LoA was released in 2002.

Loa and behold...

I'm still rolling around the "voodoo" Loa comment in my head.

Did David Lean know about this? Somebody get him on the phone.

He's not dead, he's just "unavailable."

"I didn't realize Ackerman was a Jewish name..."

END TRANSMISSION

Saw the LE at Borders in Peoria just a few days ago. I think it was $23.99.

Borders: www.borders.com
FYE: www.fye.com

You can use the store locator in their website to find your nearest stores.

Once again, stores may have this in stock, but it's still out of print. Once those stores sell their stock off, that's it. They can't order any more.

Just go on eBay and you'll find a copy for around $25. It's well worth it, too. The case is awesome, like a book. The extras are very interesting and I thought the A/V quality was great for such an old film. And yes it has a nice fat insert!

The case for Lawrence (and Bridge on the River Kwai) are among the nicest sets I've ever seen. I was hopeful Schinlder's List would be similar, but it was a little too narrow.

The 2-disc Lawrence SE is the way to go. The extras do the film justice.

I'm going to order the Lawrence LE on Amazon along with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly SE. This way i get free shipping and the GBU SE is as cheap as i'll see it in stores.

Getting both the Lawrence/Kwai LE's on Amazon would cost me $80 (CND) eek i think i'll take it one at a time.

Just saw the 2-disc Lawrence of Arabia (2 copies, as a matter of fact) at the Borders up the street from me in the Time Warner Center. Since that particular store has only been open about two months, that means they were able to get it in stock quite recently (or else they have a private stash at "Borders Central").

Yes, new Borders stores are stocked from a central depot.

I like checking out brand new Borders because sometimes they'll have OOP Criterions. I got Sid & Nancy and Dead Ringers about two months ago at a new Borders.

I search Borders for out-of-print DVDs too, especially Criterions. I think they have them because they charge full list price, so it's the last place DVD fans actually buy from until they (we) are desperate.

Yes, both the 'Lawrence' and 'River Kwai' DVDs are out of print, but they were such high production runs for "limited editions" (note that they aren't even numbered) that they're still pretty easy to find.

I picked up 'Kwai' this weekend, as a matter of fact, and had a really good laugh about the sticker on it, which, bizarrely, said "50th Anniversary". The case was too nice to mar, but I pulled it off and stuck it in the booklet on the inside, 'cause I thought it was funny that I had a DVD from the future.
