I'm happy with what I have now. We'll see though as to what this new cut actually is. . .I doubt it's anything good or too different.

When a sequel is about to come out you can expect a new version of the old flick on DVD and you can also expect Universal to suck a$$.

Universal is pathetic. We're 4 months into 2004 and they've released like 2 DVDs. Wow! With output like that how do they find time to do the work on these spectacular rereleases? They suck.

Excellent movie. Looking forward to the sequel. Not buying the DVD upgrade. The original has sufficent a/v.

Very happy with the dvd I have & won't even upgrade if it has a MovieCash ticket in it for the sequel. Not gonna get me this time Universal.

I don't know, since I got my copy used at a Family Video store for $10, I might consider this re-release if it gets fair to good reviews.

To recap:
Universal does not include inserts.
Universal has forced trailers.
Universal re-re-re-releases most DVDs.

I wonder if the Universal triple dipping department is already coming up with the title for the second or third Van Helsing release.

The current version is one of my favorite DVDs and I'm anxiously awaiting The Bourne Supremacy coming out this summer. I love the DTS soundtrack on the one that's out now. No way would I get a version without that.

I'm looking on the bright side. With the new release of the movie, won't the older disc price drop? If that's the case, and there is a signifcant price difference between the old and the "Explosive Extended Edition," I'll just as gladly get the old copy.

That's a really good way of looking at it! I've already got this disc--given the info out already, I wouldn't double dip on this unless it were close to free, since I would still keep the original.

this movie has the most blatantly obvious stuntman-who-doesn't-even-look-like-the-actor bits i've ever seen. maybe they'll fix that in this new version.

I really enjoyed this movie, and I am perfectly content with the current DVD release. What is Universal thinking by re-releasing this? How stupid do they think we are?

Does this version contain a free movie ticket to the sequel?

There are way too many new titles coming out to even consider double dipping on a marginal title like this. I'll pass, thanks.

Looks like this one DOES indeed have a free ticket....at least according to several DVD news sites. (can't remember if i saw it on dvdanswers or dvdtimes)

Pitch Black re-release will ahve a free ticket too
