Oops, sorry. The way the jokes fly around here, sometimes it hard to tell. Yes the black and white is completely normal.

Tarantino made that "black and white" joke on Conan O' Brien last night.

Replaced my copy of Kill Bill yesterday. Same deal. There is a change in the DTS stream in chapter 12 at approximately the 1:00:20 mark. I've tried the disc out on several players and most don't seem to notice it. My Denon 5900 sure does though.
I've also tried my player with a couple of processors and some handle the hiccup from the effected players better than others. My processor mutes audio until I pause then hit play to re-establish lock.
Looks like another fine Buena Vista release that some players don't work well with.

(short answer - it's there for a reason)

I had what seemed like a loud censor buzz around the 8:30 and 9:00 marks with the DTS track. Probably a bad disk, since no one else has said anything.

Good lord, if there is this much confusion here about the film, just imagine mainstream audiences renting or buying this.

Not really a playback problem but after 5 times watching it i just noticed this...
There's no forced Miramax trailers on the disc! I can't believe I just picked up on it. Much thanks though... I'm sure QT's stroke with the company had something to do with it.

Yep, from what I understand (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong), the black and white has to be there for that particular scene. In the states if you make a film with that much gore and bloodshed, it has to be viewed in black and white. Perhaps to lessen the visual effects of the blood and guts.

I had some major problems with the audio on Kill Bill. It is probably something wrong with my receiver, but everytime something loud was about to happen my receiver completely turned off. The DVD kept playing in the player, so once I turned the receiver back on it was a few seconds ahead. It seriously took about five minutes to successfully get past the gun shot in the beginning. My roommates and I got fed up with it, so we watched it on my comp in my room. But having three guys on a bed watching a movie just isn't cool. I've never had a problem with my reciever like that before, it was like it was possessed or something.
