Tarantino's big plans for 'Kill Bill' DVD's...

DVD Talk Special Edition
I bought the release today since it was 10 bucks and I'll gladly upgrade in the future. The whole "edited together as one move" is a complete waste of time except for the extra gore. It will just be the two movies combined and then separated again with an intermission, defeating its own purpose.

If the combined version is nothing more than the regular movies with an intermission and an absent scene of Uma driving, then I might keep it as two seperate movies.
Who knows? I might actually prefer it as two films.

I hope if "special editions" are released of both Vol 1 and 2 that they would be unrated and 2 discs like Pulp Fiction/Jackie Brown (movie/supplements)

In interviews Tarantino has said that he'd like to put out not only a super special edition, but also a stand-alone disc or two about various aspects of the making of the films (he cited the American Pie "Beneath the Crust" videos as a model).

The Kill Bill Vol. 1 DVD sold more than 2 million copies on it's first day of release. Not too shabby! I guess we're not the only impatient ones!

The only reason I'm slightly pissed is because who knows when Tarrantino will actually get around to doing it? With Lord of the Rings we had a date for the EE the same day we kne the date for the regular edition. This fague, "sometimes, somewhere, somehow" crap wouldn't fill me with a lot of hope that it was coming anytime soon if I was holding out for the set.

I think he's doing the right thing by announcing his plans for future releases, definately kudos for keeping everyone in the loop.. i dont see what the bitching is about in regards to that topic..
my question is.. when will these re-releases come out? will they release a bare-bones vol. 2 then months later release the SEs? i havent been able to go through every post in every forum, i apologize, but id like to know if tarrantino has or will soon announce the release dates of the SE editions.
im a kill bill fan but not a fanatic, so id prefer to buy only one edition.

It could be a few years before the next version comes out.
Tarantino wants to re-release Kill Bill as a re-edited single-movie version around the holidays of this year (to be eligible for Oscar consideration) and Vol. 2 will probably come out in a bare-bones edition to promote that.
I'd expect the DVD of the new version to come out sometime late in 2005, and then a supplemental disc in 2006, etc.

I've never been totally sold on the Vol. 1, Vol. 2 idea that big fat Harvey Weinstein impossed on Tarantino. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that if QT had his way, it would be a 4-hour movie with an intermission and all this seperate releases of DVDs would be mute. Screw you Harvey for making us pay $18 for 2 movies when we could have paid $9 for one.

I think we are going to get the Japanese versions on DVD here.. here is a QT quote from recent fango Interview
Fangoria:Will the House of Blue Leaves sequence be in color on the DVD?
QT:No that remains b&w. It was only seen in color in Japan and HK. After everything is said and done. I will take the Japanese versions of both Vol 1. and Vol 2., put them together and release that in theaters as NC-17, then we will come out with that on video too.
Hopefully he is talking Reg 1.
Sounds like two completely different versions to me and worth picking up both.

I like "Kill Bill" quite a bit. I've rented the DVD, and while light in the extras dept, I'd buy it in a second if I knew it was to be the last word (and likewise Vol. 2 when it is released).
What stops me in my tracks is the awareness that there's another version out there, the real version, including scenes that had to be cut and full-color gore that had to be sanitized to B&W to get an MPAA "R" rating (and likely Miramax's distribution, as well).
And it doesn't even matter that I happen to like the switch to B&W, and I'm even persuaded by the added justification that many of the 70's-era chopsocky flix also went B&W for the same reasons (I hadn't known that). But still...
But still I know there's another version, the real version, and so I'll either wait or get a multi-region player before I ever buy "Kill Bill" on DVD. I can get my "Kill Bill" fix via Netflix until then.

By all accounts, BOTH are the Real version. QT stated that he enjoyed the black and white and what it brought to the film. I think the color for japan is just more QT showing his love for Japan and giving them there own version after all is said and done.

Speaking about things people have no clue about, anyone here up for a chat about quantum physics or politics?
