Timeline DVD worth picking up?

Paul Walker's Timeline, never saw the film, is it worth getting? Heard bad reviews about it. Are they true?

You'll be much happier spending about $4 here:

The movie is time from your life you'll never get back. The book is time you'll actually enjoy.

Don't buy it. The film sucks.

Geofferson 04-12-04 02:07 PM

What's already been said: Don't buy it.

DJariya 04-12-04 03:01 PM

Rent it! It's a worthy rental....mainly for the 45 minute behind the scenes documentary.

Michael Corvin 04-12-04 03:25 PM

I actually enjoyed it. I hated the book and I'm a huge Crichton fan. Other than Paul Walker I think it was decent enough. But I can see into the future, this being priced below $14 (maybe $10) within 6 months.

scott shelton 04-12-04 03:39 PM

If you see it on a shelf, walk out of the store, drive back home, and never think about it again.

Nobody needs that kind of pain in these fragile times. And I'm a huge Donner fan.

It stinks!

Mike Lowrey 04-12-04 03:51 PM

Thanks, decision is made. I'm getting it! Just kidding....

Does this one rank right up there with The Core?

Patman 04-12-04 04:00 PM

The Core was better.

HoNuts 04-12-04 04:31 PM

Timeline blew big time. I can't believe Dick Donner made this crap.

THE CORE didn't have Paul Walker.

Living Dead 04-12-04 09:53 PM

I loved the book, it's one of my favorites of Crichton's...but the movie was TERRIBLE. I expected a much better film when I learned Donner was directing. Too bad.

FiveO 04-12-04 11:36 PM

Another vote...

Don't pick this one up.

dcprules 04-13-04 01:16 AM

I was a big fan of the book (when is the next Crichton book coming out... it's been a while) and was excited to see the movie especially considering Donner directed it and it had a pretty cool teaser trailer. After reading the abominable reviews I passed. Maybe I'll rent it, but since I liked the book so much I don't want the movie to also ruin the book for me.

matome 04-13-04 07:57 AM

Definitely not a blind buy. If you must see it, rent it first.

rexinnih 04-13-04 08:21 AM

Time travel has always been interesting to me but with all the bad reviews, it'll be a rental at most here.

goatboy 04-13-04 10:15 AM

Spend the money on the book instead...they dumbed this story down so much for the screen...it's hardly watchable.

polarbear 04-13-04 12:03 PM

The film was bad, not sure about the extras on the disc. Don't pick it up, maybe wait till it is off the new rental shelf at Blockbuster so you can get it cheap, and you want do one of their rent 3 for $X.XX or whatever special they have.

Giles 04-13-04 12:09 PM

as others have noted - this is a rental!

PalmerJoss 04-13-04 12:20 PM

No way would I buy this steaming pile of :crap:

LightTrinity 04-13-04 01:53 PM

I read the book. Then I saw the film in the theater. I knew it had bad reviews before I saw it. This helped to keep my expectations low. It isn't good, but it isn't too bad either. I liked the red-headed chick.

Anyhow, for the cheapest $18.30 at DVDSoon I'd say don't buy it. Wait for the price to drop to around $10, like I plan to do, then I'll buy it to see it again and to own a copy.

DrOBoogie1 04-13-04 03:03 PM

I went to see this, being a fan of Richard Donner and time travel stories, but I can't in good conscience recommend the movie. I say skip it.

harpoonipa 04-13-04 03:07 PM

I loved the book and will have the dvd from netflix probably tomorrow. if it sucks.... oh well

I agree. I just finished watching the movie and while I probably wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy to anyone I certainly thought it was better than The Core (but that's a different thread for another forum... in fact there's one in the Movie forum now ;)). However while I can't see buying the DVD now if I ever do everntually it'll probably be more for the documentary than the movie itself. Not quite the Hamster Factor but very enjoyable.
