I already double-dipped once on this title. I had the R1 3-disc set and upgraded to the R3 Superbit Deluxe 4-disc set. No need to get the R1 Superbit since I already have the DTS track.

DavidH never meets a re-release that he doesn't like!!

Yes, that is usually the case.
I have been buying DVDs for almost 4 1/2 years and I only own around 200 or so. I am selective with what I buy (probably 1/3 are upgrades!). Also, I have an ISF'd 61" display and consider myself a bit of a videophile, so I like the +5-10% improvements (you'll never hear me say I am upgrading for extras).
I think so far, I am the only person in this thread that will pick this up.
I only paid $16.99 for the 3 disc, so I am sure someone on Ebay will buy it and it should cover the costs of the Superbit which I should be able to get for around $20.00 from DDD. Ebay makes buying an re-release much easier to live with, as well. I usually do pretty well selling the older versions on there.

I purchased my R3 Superbit Deluxe from KoreanDVDs Black Hawk Down Superbit Deluxe
It took about 10 days to arrive, if I remember correctly. And the price was very reasonable. There is a censorship warning on the DVD details page, but there is no censorship at all.
My player is a Panasonic XP-30 and it plays on that. It is not a region free player. I think it is safe to assume that the set is either region 0 or region 1/3.
Is there a program/way to read the disc and have it tell you what region it is encoded for?
Can't comment on the R1 3-Disc set, haven't viewed that one.

i've asked this before & i wasn't able to get an answer...
how's the bit rate of the R3 Superbit DVDs when compared the R1 Superbit titles?
i know for a fact that the R4 Superbit titles have a lower bit rate & i'm not sure how this translates to the eyes & ears...

I wouldn't know the bit rate for BHD Korean Superbit. However, the disc made a significant difference in pq on my setup. Indeed, I think that the transfer is one of the best in DVDs. I would rank it up there with Matrix Revolution.

Hmm, this could almost be a triple dip. I have the original, the special edition, and the superbit is tempting. If the DTS just rocks (which I have a feeling it will) I might grab it but I will wait unitl I can get it for cheap.

I also purchased the R3 Superbit delux from Korea and the dts is absolutely worth it. I'm sure the track will be the same as the R1 and if you go over and do a search in the International forum, you can read more reviews and also links to reviews concerning the dts. I've said before and I'll stand by it, that there is a "night and day" difference between the DD and the dts. The imaging on the dts is amazing and there is a more noticeable punch to the explosions.
We all knew a SB release was going to happen. If you want to dip again I suggest going the R3 route so you can keep your extras to watch when your bored. I'm sure you can sell the R1 delux on ebay for a good price.

In all honesty, I was a bit disappointed with the current 5.1 Region 1 track. Don't get me wrong -- it's good...very good --- but for a movie of this nature, I was expecting to be blown away..kind of like Saving Private Ryan or something similar. While I usually don't hear a difference between DD and DTS tracks, I will be curious to hear the DTS on the Region 1 Superbit.

from dvdfile:
Columbia will also release a Superbit version of Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down on the 15th. In keeping with the Superbit tradition, the 148-minute flick will be spread across two discs and be presented in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital and DTS surround tracks. There are no extras, and retail will be $26.95.

A great deal of griping over an announcement. Let's wait until the reviews before getting our feathers all bunched up. Some people (Like me) appreciate extras, but prefer optimal audio and video. If this release offers it, I'll probably pick it up and simply rent the 3-disc version to view the extras.
One thing I have learned about myself from buying DVD's over the past 5 years- I don't tend to give extras more than one viewing. Not saying I don't like them, just hardly ever feel the need to see them again and again.

I don't know why they would split it over two discs. That would be very inconsistent as the Patriot has an even longer running time and is on one disc.
