Spider-man animated question

I see that in the first week of June Columbia is releasing 3 Spider-man DVDs-are these from the 90's show or are they the MTV version.

I thought they were actually the ones from the sixties... Has there even been any new shows from the MTV version? Season 1, obviously, is already on DVD.

These are just the MTV show released as 3 episodes per disc. Its way cheaper to buy the 2 disc collection but they're out to grab a quick buck from the casual buyer and soccer mom to tie in with the movie. Avoid like the plague.

I will be getting the one disc in June featuring Dr. Octopus and the sixties box set.I have the MTV version 2-disc set and thought that the backgrounds were too fake looking and the idea was good but there is much improvement too work on in other words I will take the animated Spider-man over the computerized version any day of the week.

MTV really does bite it for playing the episodes so far out of order that it destroyed it

Other than the "fake-looking" backgrounds, how is the MTV series, is it worth picking up? I've been thinking about it, but just not sure about it. Never saw an episode on TV.

The DVDs are really nice anamorphic transfers with DTS. The show is decent enough but the format really puts it over the top.

The show is based on the Marvel movie universe, not the comic universe, which can lead to a bit of confusion. This seems to be the way Stan Lee is trying to bring Marvel licensing back under his control after decades of practically giving it away.

The show is OK, but it's no great shakes. It would be nice if there's a second season, but I won't miss it if there isn't. Still, if you can find the set for $15 or so, it's worth it.

Nothing like making up great villians like the Marilyn Manson looking Static Man.

Oh no!!!! Static Man has given me static cling.

I bought it for my kid and the only part I have seen so far is Static Man. I hope it gets better than that.

I thought the show was fine. Some episodes fell flat, but I liked some of it. Letting go of the "this is bastardizing the comics" stance, I grew fond of it. I really like the season (series?) finale.

By Static Man, are you referring to Electro? The character actually seems to be modelled after Bob Dylan.

This is the Spidey DVD run for June

*3-Disc Spider-man
*Super bits Spider-man
*Spider-man vs. Doc Ock 90's show
*Three MTV animated series disc (nothing new...same episodes find on the 2 disc edition that came out earlier.)
*60's Animated Show

Anyway...I got to say I loved the MTV spidey show. I thought it was alot of fun. The stories were great with adding depth into the spidey character. It's a shame that the series wasn't continued. Just hope cartoon network picks something up with Spider-man.

The backgrounds looked too fake? It's an animated show based on a guy who swings around on webs b/c he was bitten by a radioactive spider. What's NOT fake about that?

The MTV series was enjoyable, and I may pick it up if I can find it cheap. Back on topic, the only Columbia release I know of is the re-release of the original film.

What I was trying to figure out was how MJ got into college? It's supposed to be a continuation of the movie.

Maybe they were getting to that part?

With all these releases, it's too bad nobody decided to put out a set of the '70s live-action seires with Nicholas Hammond...

I don't have the MTV 2-disc version. Will the Spidey 3-disc version include everything from the 2-disc version, or only select episodes?

I wasn't around in the '70s, but I thought a I remembered a live-action Spiderman show. I must have seen it on re-runs or something. I'm glad I'm not completely crazy and this was real (regardless of how bad it may have been).

Didn't the theme song originate from the '60s animated show?

You're dropping more $$$ if you buy the each single disc. ...just get the 2-disc version...Everything is the same.

The USA Network used to pull the show out it seems like every Thanksgiving. They ran the series many times as two-hour TV movies throughout the 1980s and early '90s.

Sci-Fi Channel (owned by USA) later ran the show during the mid-90s.

I haven't seen the movie, so can't comment as to which theme they used in the film, but the '60s cartoon theme and the three(!) different instrumental themes used on the TV show were all entirely different!

The cartoon used the well-known them with the vocalists ("Spider Man, Spider Man...").

The 1977 TV movie used its own theme music (by Johnnie Spence). The first handful of regular 1978 episodes had (IMO) the best theme music, penned by Stu Phillips. Has a nice, lush orchestral sound.

The "second season" (with the addition of Ellen Bry and subtraction of Michael Pataki from the cast) had yet a third theme, by Dana Kaproff. This is the theme that's really heavy on the saxophone.

By the way, yes the show is way cheesy, but cheese is good. I say bring it on!
