Best looking/Coolest Box Sets..

After the release of the Schindler's List Box Set it got me thinking about the other box sets, and how innovative and thought provoking some are, they're not just a case that holds 2-4 dvds anymore..they ARE the ATTRACTION!

My favourite is the the Schindler's List set, it just looks totally different, kinda like a meausum piece or something,

2) Six Feet under Case:just how it opens up and the cover with the corpes and lipstick thing..going on...and then when you open it up the punch line apearss "Your whole life is Leading upto this...."

3) The Sopranos cases are cool also cigar style, with the gloomy/haunting picture of the whole crew taken just for that particular season.

This kinda stuff took some serious creative juice to come up with...
Soon we will be buying these peices to decorate our HT with, and the dvd will just be a bonus that comes with it....

So whats your favourite box set ....

Also

Which kind of surprisingly still seems to be available http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...621176-5934266

Freaks and Geeks Limited Edition... This set is just too sweet.

Scarface box set is pretty cool as well.

That Alien set is ugly as sin. My favorite would have to be the Antoine Doinel suitcase.

I still don't get the little alien thing there in the upper right. What is that, a Lego alien?

It's a Kubrick, which is a Japanese line of action figure toys similar in style to large Lego figures.

Band of Brothers, LOTR EE's.....all the usual suspects get my vote.

Also adding this:

Devil's Backbone DVD gift set w/statue

Will probably top my list once I get mine. Will also be one of the most limited collectibles I've ever gotten. Kinda puts the 'limited edition' you see on every DVD to shame doesn't it?

(btw, someone on a weta board who emailed sideshow claims that the set is already 60% sold through)

It's all about that Alien set. I have seen nothing better. That Bond anniversary set was beautiful, but I don't think anything ever came of it. This is just amazing...

For the lazy

I'm not much of a Bond fan (don't dislike it just never found a reason to buy them all... this may change my mind though ).

IMO that Alien head is a stupid. Makes me like the option the US did get, but only because it's not the head.

Personally I think the LOTR EE sets are the best looking things I've seen. Nothing over the top like the head, but still much better than the average set.

And the Master and Commander set looks like a winner.

I'm pretty sure it's only available in Japan. Search the International forum I think there's a thread about it in there.

I think that's because almost everybody who got that boxed set complained that the box fell apart (or came broken); I seem to remember a LOT of complaints at the time, followed quickly by a lot of people saying, "The discs are going to be released in regular stores soon anyway," so I just waited.

Also, I'm not a fan of Amazon (even though, yes, I know, they've gotten much, much better since the days when i grew to not be a fan of them), so I don't like to buy from them, and it was exclusive to them, right?

I'm a little biased, but I agree that the Freaks and Geeks "Yearbook" wins, hands down. I also love the look of the Futurama and X-Files Season sets (totally different, but they look awesome!). The Mondo Cane Collection from Blue Underground is great too...if only the case were a little thicker. Oh yeah, and I really like Criterion's Monterey Pop Festival set, too.

I am definitely surprised that they still have these things (it was limited to 5000 numbered copies). Wow. 18 months and they still haven't sold them all? Wow.

The problem wasn't that the box came apart or broke -- it was that the spots to hold the DVDs (similar to the inside of a CD jewel case) aren't very good at gripping the disc. The packaging itself is great and very sturdy, but the DVDs can fall off the spindles very easily and it was tough to get a set shipped to you without 'floaters'. It took 3 tries before I got one that I found acceptable, although Amazon was very good about the returns/exchanges.

I'm not usually one to go for large packaging, but this is one neat looking set. This Kurosawa fan is very glad he went through the (minor) hassle to get it.

Although there are more lavish sets out there (see LOTR & ALIEN) my favorite has always been the Twin Peaks Season 1 set. I had never seen the show before and will never forget taking the cover off to reveal the picture of Laura Palmer wrapped in plastic. Chilling.
