How "limited" is the Final Countdown?

Hey guys, I have a question about the "limited" nature of Blue Underground's Final Countdown.

First, I've never seen the movie, but the hype has me really interested. I'm kinda low on funds right now, but I'm in a pretty good standing to win my friend's NCAA pool (providing UConn doesn't screw up). Anyways, I was curious if I should go out and get in now, it's only $16 at Best Buy, or wait until maybe a month or two from now to pick it up.

Suggestions?

It's limited to 100,000. But I don't know how long the supply will last.

BB only had 3 copies at 10am this morning! I got 69,XXX something out of 100.000. I really like the clear blue case and lenticular cover or whatever it is. Now I just have to watch it... I hope its good, this was a blind buy for me.

It was a blind buy for me too. But the packaging was too hard to pass up.

The cover attracted my attention, then when i read what it was about (im a big WWII-era film buff), i couldnt pass it up. All the copies at the store i was at (5 on shelf) were all numbered in the 40,000 range/100,000.

My Best Buy had about a dozen 2-DVD editions and a few single DVD editions of both types. Most of the 2-DVD editions had slices in the front from a knife, but I found one that didn't. The funny part was seeing the 1-DVD edition for $14.99. Who wouldn't pay $2 more for the 2-DVD edition right next to it?

Out of curiosity, has anyone found the 2-DVD Final Countdown edition for less than $16.99 anywhere? Is Walmart or Target carrying it?

I tried calling both stores, but as usual the majority of the time I call the electronics dept. lets the phone ring forever and I don't have enough patience to keep trying.

Borders wanted $19.99 for the 1-DVD edition and didn't have any of the 2-DVD editions.

I got my copy for $20 at Circuit City. It's 10982 of 100K. Also, I realized that the 3D plastic cover is actually an insert. It slides out to reveal the paper cover.

The movie was just fabulous. The F-14s vs. the Zeros sequence was awesome. My rotted laserdisc became unwatchable last year but it was a poor VHS transfer and in full screen. The second DVD has a half-hour documentary with the pilots and those involved in making the movie. Another 15 minute show with the producer and lots of stills, pictures, pubilicity shots, posters, and a bio of Kirk Douglas. This is one DVD set where I'll watch the supplement disc many times compared to the others which I may never watch again.

Overall, Blue Underground did a fantastic job and it's about time this film got the royal treatment. I'm not disappointed on bit. I may go pick up another copy as a collectible.

I went to Circuit City this morning and was going to price match it to Best Buy's ad. The salesgirl told me the CC webprice was $15.96 and she would give it to me for that.

Update: I just checked CC's website. It shows the 2 disc version for $24.99. VHS price shows as $15.96. The salesgirl must have read it wrong.

Not sure. I do know I'm a sucker for the deluxe sets then end up barely touching the extras.

I noticed DeepDiscountDVD dropped their price under $17 (I forgot the exact price) -- almost certainly in response to Best Buy's price.

So it seems like Best Buy is/was the best B&M deal?

I noticed my BB only had about 10 or so. I pre-ordered mine and got #006865. I saw that those at BB were also anywhere from 6,000 to 8,000. pretty low #ers for here in the sticks.

I did not even know this was a limited release. I had planned on putting off this purchase but looks like I need to go ahead and get it.

Picked up the "Limited" edition at BestBuy for $16. They had 2 or 3 left of the "Limited" edition and 2 or 3 of the SE (wide and full). Both were $16, so it was a no brainer to pick up the LE - it does have a cool hologram on it which is 10 times better than the SE.

Watched part of the movie last night and it look very good on my HDTV. Just remember this is a movie that is 24 years old and has gone through an obstacle coarse to get onto DVD.

It has been about 3 weeks since I have bought a movie, this is one I just could not pass up.

The Best Buy in Bel Air, MD had dozens of them when I went on Tuesday. Didn't think to check the #'s, though.

I didn't know this was honestly limited - I thought "Limited" meant limited like the Saving Private Ryan disc was a "limited edition" - that limit lasted five and a half years!

Anyway, I hope prospectors don't buy up all of these to re-sell later. I'm just glad I ordered my copy when I did.

It´s gonna take years before the whole 100.000 copies are sold. There´s no need to rush out and get this title, just yet. Unless, you´re a die hard fan of this flick.

Has anyone looked for The Final Countdown at Walmart? Do they have it or is it not "mainstream" enough for them?

I haven't been to my Walmart for many weeks since they dramatically downsized the DVD department and got rid of many older titles. I was amazed when I wanted to pricematch those Harrison Ford Jack Ryan DVDs that they no longer carried any of them. At times it seems like their motto has become "if it's been out for more than a year, we won't carry it any more because it's ancient history".

Manzana, I looked at a Walmart in SoCal, but couldn't find it. That might say more about their ability to effectively display would understand, or not. In any case, I didn't see it there.

I didn't find this title at Wal Mart so I grabbed 001760/100,000 from Media Play.

I don't think they were numbered but I do recall the "limited edition" of the original Men In Black took awhile before it couldn't be found anymore. WRT this one I went ahead and caved in and picked up a copy... It took awhile to find them at the BB I was at but eventually found 1/2 dozen tucked in a corner. I got #22777
