Who cares!...i've managed to secure a copy and will be with me soon after it's travels across the 'pond'...assuming it doesn't get sucked into a vortex distorting time
....can't wait!!
Just a hypothetical question...if you happened to see #1 or #100,000 at your local DVD Suppliers and already owned a copy...would you consider snapping it up just because of what number it represented in its limited run?

If dvdpricesearch hadn't listed Final Countdown at $14.88, I would've assumed Walmart wasn't carrying this title. Since my Walmart is in an area where the competition has already been driven out and good prices are a rarity, it would've probably been $16.88 (a little less than Best Buy) if they have it.
I tried several times to get through to the electronics department on various weekdays and even today on the weekend at times before 9 AM, mid day, after 9 PM, etc. -- and not once did anyone answer the phone. In terms of being able to get through to someone in a department, Walmart and Best Buy take the cake as the worst, in my opinion.
So I decided to give up. Even if it were $2 cheaper there it's not worth the grief of trying to get ahold of someone there or the 5 minute walk from the parking lot to the store since there is never any parking close by.

Final Countdown was in Best Buy's Sunday newspaper ad. If Best Buy is out, or if you don't want to go there, you can always take the ad to a competitor like Circuit City and they'll match the price.
That's what I did with the first Battlestar Galactica release, with the big Cylon helmet box. Lowest price I found was at Circuit City, in the $70s, but they were sold out. So I took their ad to Best Buy and they price matched it.

There were 3 copies at my local Best Buy up here in Canada yesterday when I picked up my copy. They had 2 in the 52xxx range and the one I got was 1152, just had to be in a "lowest number geek fit" at the time of purchase
Not that it will mean anything. Great movie and the job Blue Underground did was very impressive.

I'm not sure the 2 disc of Thre Final Countdown will be a collector's item any time soon. 100,000 pressing is quite a lot for a film that doesn't have a huge cult audience. Look at Blue Underground's DVD for SNUFF. Only 10,000 made and I still see them in stores (as well as Ebay, selling for $20.00). Even the Mondo Cane box has been as cheap as $80.00 at film conventions.

Another clue to the film's pent-up popularity is that tiny Blue Underground released three separate versions. It wouldn't have done that if the movie wasn't popular. Keep in mind that the movie has largely been unavailable on home video until now.
I asked Blue Underground founder Bill Lustig if this was a big seller for the company. He replied: "The Final Countdown is our biggest seller without a close second."

Yeah, if history is any guide, don't expect these to be rare or valuable any time soon. Look at other sets with similar numbers (Manhunter comes to mind)... you'll still be able to find this on shelves in a year with no problem.
