Trouble finding new releases at Wal-Mart?

Last week I went to Wal-Mart looking for the Commitments special edition, didn't have it. I find this suprising since I saw it advertised on tv a good bit.

This week I went looking for Beyond the Mat: SE, which I wasn't really expecting, and didn't find it...ok cool. Then what really angered me, Dirty Pretty Things. I asked if they had it and I got "I haven't heard of it, so we wouldn't have it." I reply, "true, it's not like it was nominated for best screenplay at the Oscars." His wonderful reply "we stock movies better than the trash nominated for the oscars, get Rundown instead, that's a great movie." Now, I did enjoy Rundown it was a fun action movie, but this guy was dead serious. The other person I asked just for fun gave me a golden answer "we don't sell pornographic films." I said it's not pron then just stopped talking and left.

Anyone else notice wal-mart is getting worse?

Funny side note, my Wally World sold a few copies of full screen from what I saw and sold out of wide screen. Here's where the funny kicks in, my buddy went to grab a copy, sold out. He asked if they were getting anymore in and was told "maybe, but not many people wnat wide screen so the likelyhood is very slim."

If it wasn't for the $5.50 bin and so many other good prices...and the fact I can get a dvd, a box of cereal, a pound of lunch meat, a loaf of bread and some milk all in the same place...

I only use Walfart as a last resort. I may go there at midnight for a new release. the last time though was for Indy Jones collection. but even then...it was nothing but a nightmare. I've already raped the discount bin so I doubt I'll be back in there for dvds before summer.

Only count on major new title releases at Walmart.. catalog titles and reissues (Commitments) may show up there eventually but usually not until a few weeks after their release. However Walmart frequently has the best prices on new releases, along with less hassle of returning something than BB or CC..... yeah their the evil empire, but their the cheap evil empire....

I see a lot of complaints about Wal-Mart and how "they're getting worse." All I can really say to that is: it's a minimum wage job, you're bound to find *******s who don't know what they're talking about. As far as Wal-Mart not having DVDs in stock, I'd say that doesn't surprise me, considering they sell everything from Toothbrushes to Tires to Televisions. Think of Wal-Mart as your convenient stop, not the source for your DVD purchasing, much less your film review source.

My walmarts usually have a big selection. Sometimes it takes Circuit City months before they get a catalog title...

I went looking for KUNG FU and they didn't have it.
But I don't hate Wal-Mart and here's why:
They price match with no problem.
They have that $5.50 dvd bind.

So don't hate!

For an interesting (and disturbing) read about Wal-Mart, and why you shouldn't shop there, read this:

The DVD section at my local Wal-Mart is tiny! There's one row that's half new releases and half questionable older titles. So I never go there specifically looking for a DVD, but if I'm there shopping, I'll run by the electronics section for a minute and browse.

Back when I lived in Atlanta, my local Wal Mart always had "big" new releases (like Harry Potter or "Finding Nemo" DVDs) for sale before 8:30 am. I have yet to find a Wal Mart in Charlotte that can get any new releases out on release day. I went to two WMs on Indiana Jones's release day (after 1pm, BTW) and they still didn't have them out. So I had to drive way the hell out of my way to a Best Buy - who had low stock on Widescreen but plenty of foolscreen. Maybe it just depends on where you live? The Wal Mart people in Atlanta were frickin' genuises compared to what I read about WM on these boards.

You should never rely on Wal Mart for DVD purchases. At least mine has so few DVDs that they only carry the most high profile of the new releases. They only have one wall of DVDs, and once they sell out of something, they add a new title to it.

The only reason to shop there for DVDs is the bargain bin. Otherwise, stick to Circuit City or Best Buy or online shopping. Much bigger selection at any of those.

as a former employee of wal-fart(I love that), I can tell you that most of the associates are treated so bad by the company that they really don't care about the customers and will say anything to get rid of them. anyways, I have also had problems finding new releases. fortuneately, I live close to lasers edge, and they always have what I want.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Back in '98 I worked at a SAM's Club. I was hired to be a forklift operator on their hard line. However the guy I was hired to replace, came back the following week. So they put me on the soft line (groceries) and I was never trained on the forklift. Then the next thing I know, about a half week later, let let me go after I supposedly did something against their employee handbook. So I worked there a grand total of 2.5 weeks. I believe that once the guy came back, they were just looking for some reason to get rid of me.

But as for DVD selections at Wal Mart, it appears that they only stock mainstream movies. You're not gonna find old catalog movies there. Their DVD racks would have to cover the entire electronics section to do that. Same thing for their CD racks for that matter. The only reason why I go to Wal Mart looking for DVDs is to browse their

No problem for me. For big-time new releases, Wal-Mart has become THE place. $15.87 and always plenty in stock.

They just opened up a Walmart about a mile from my home and they sell pretty much all their new releaes for $14.63. Which is nice, cause I can save a few bucks over Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, or even other Walmarts (which is where I used to go). But damn if this Walmart stocks very little. They have the major new releases and major catalog titles (Schindler's List, Disney), but have not had any smaller films. No House of Sand and Fog, No Dirty Pretty Things, Not even Beyond Borders or Lost in Translation. Pretty weird since other Walmrts a few miles away will even stock most of these titles. Oh well, I got there for the prices and now I know not to expect limited release films

I went Walmart today to pick up Texas Chainsaw Massacre not a copy to be found. I did notice a couple of boxes next to the dvd display. I questioned a employ who said they haven't gotten around to putting the dvds out and I would have to wait for the dvd guy to put them out. I said you would rather lose a sale then open a box, he said can't do it and I would have to wait for the guy to put them out.

My wallyworld doesn't just stock new mainstream releases, they stock new direct to dvd releases. What ever new Segal movie comes out they have and other movies no one ever heard of. They had some movie with Michael Caine and some other stuff. Yet the two I'm looking for (Stark Raving Mad and Foolproof) they don't have. Even worse, they didn't get Futurama vol. 3.

I think they just do it to torment me

Then they put something I want in the $5.50 bin and back I go.
