Picked up the Casino DVD yesterday and just got done watching tonight. Wow! It was great to see the movie uncut and in full (last time I watched it, it was on USA). The transfer was pretty good, considering this is a very early DVD release, and the sound was impressive! Great soundtrack that came through beautifully, and very active surround activity. LFE had some decent punch too. Extras would be nice, but I'm happy to have this at least.

Davisdvd.com has a special edition on their release list with a "to be announced" date. I'd don't know what information they have, but this movie is a likely candidate for a special edition.

Personally, I think the picture quality is terrible. I tried to watch this when I got my new big screen last year and just shook my head and put the disc back on the shelf. Couldn't watch it, it looked so bad.

I saw this movie in the theater -- there was not that much grain present.

On my calibrated 32" WEGA flatscreen it looks pretty decent. Yes, it had some grain and dirt on the print, but the detail is pretty good, and the colors are decent. Remember it's a very early DVD release. Definately could be better, but it's watchable. Maybe if I had a big screen I'd notice more problems.

Re: Re: Re: Is Casino OOP?

Listed as out of print as of 3/23/04 by a major supplier of DVD's to the retail market (which explains why so few vendors have any copies in stock). It may not be out-of-stock everytwhere, but the orignal release was 02/24/1998. Kinda long-in-the-tooth for a DVD release.

well hell...if there's no news of an se in sight, i may as well scoop this up also. I cant blieve martin scorsece hasn't said anything lately regarding a possible box set. Geez, how long do they want us to wait for a great version of casino, goodfellas, raging bull, etc? This is an OUTRAGE!

I pledged to never buy the current versions of casino and goodfellas hoping, perhaps, that se's would be announced. but alas, we have heard nothing in the last year. I'll just give up, cave in and buy the damn current ones.

Is the pq of casino better or worse than gf? is gf anamorphic as well?

Since the current version of Casino is OOP, it's more than likely that a SE is on the way. Of course it still may be many months before it is announced.

Again, the current version of Casino is NOT out of print. There has been no mention of an SE, and if the wait on the Goodfellas SE is any indication, we could be waiting a long time for one.

The current Casino disc is a little pricey for what you get, but it's a decent transfer - why not give it at least a rental if you enjoy the film or Marty Scorsese's work?

Oh, well, if two obscure retailers don't carry it, it MUST be out of print.

And a LOT of titles don't show up in a search at Universal's web site. "12 Monkeys" doesn't show up either (even if you try spelling it as "Twelve") but that title is most certainly in print.

It's available through every major distributor and not listed as OOP in their catalogs.

How many hundreds of copies do you want? I'll order them for you.

That second link (to Michael's Movie Mayhem) is not an obscure retailer. They are an online database that lists all DVDs released... and they get their info direct from the studios/distributors.

In the 3+ years I've been going there, I have never once known them to incorrectly list an in-print title as OOP. If they say it's OOP, you can take that to the bank.

I just watched Casino the other night and while it's not bad looking, a new transfer would be nice. For some reason I remember it looking better, but it has been a while since I watched it.

12 Monkeys is out of print as well. 12 Monkeys and Casino are not available at any of the these sites:
barnesandnoble.com
bestbuy.com
buy.com
circuitcity.com
deepdiscountdvd.com
dvdpacific.com
dvdplanet.com
overstock.com

But I'm sure it's just a coincidence that they're all out of stock.

Although I originally doubted it, also noticed that all the e-tailers don't carry this anymore like D-Ball noted above, as do none of the B&Ms I have visited recently (DVD Planet, BB, WM, and Target).

Granted DVD Planet has titles all over the place, so there is a chance I just missed it, but it was not in drama.

I do sincerely hope that a 2D SE is forthcoming. As said previously, LOOOOONG overdue.

Why not order Casino online?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0783225792/

http://www.dvdsoon.com/show-title-details.xml?uid=5815

http://www.playcentric.com/DVD/produ...5F025192015922

Again, just because an e-tailer doesn't have a product in stock doesn't mean that it's out of print.

Universal confirmed that it's still in print. It's still listed in every distributor's catalog. Universal One-Stop has 300 of them in stock - would you like to order a couple hundred of them?

All this leads me to believe that a 10th anniversary edition of Casino is in the works for 2005.
Warner hinted that it will be releasing an SE of Goodfellas for its 15th anniversary in 2005.
What better way for both studios to complement each film and capitalize on sales by releasing them in the same time frame.

My take on the Scorsese DVD fiasco.
