Whatever Happened To Millennium Editions?
Elite Entertainment put out three great releases in their Millennium Edition series in 2002, Night Of The living Dead, Re-Animator, and I Spit On Your Grave. Each of these is now considered the definitive release on DVD. But, what has happened to this great series? The last release was on 17 December 2002. That is over 15 months ago. Has anyone heard or read anything about the future of this series?

DVD Talk Special Edition
I think we are now too far past the turn of the millenium for any kind of any item using that title to really be meaningful from a marketing standpoint. Actually, at this point anything called Millenium Edition would sound a bit out of date. So I'm sure Elite decided just to drop the whole concept, although they may still release deluxe editions in the future under some other sort of banner.

Maybe there aren't any movies (that they have the rights to) that have the right to be called "Millennium Edition".

So is Elite still releasing SEs, just under a different title?

I guess Image doesn't own the rights to any other movies that are deserving of the banner. Let's face it, I Spit on Your Grave might have killed the line.

Maybe I said that wrong...
What I meant was that maybe people were turned off by I Spit on Your Grave. I own it and like it, but I'm not sure it fits most peoples' tastes.
The sales might not have been what Image was looking for, so they might have dropped the line because of it.

Well holy crap, aren't you Mister Fancy Pants who just knows everything.
I'm guessing your everyday shopper didn't pick up this movie. In fact, I'll bet that the sales for Re-Animator and NotLD were at least double what they were for I Spit on Your Grave.

Ask anyone on the street if they've heard of Night of the Living Dead. They may not know who George Romero is, but they'll sure as hell know of the movie.
My mom and dad know about it, and that's saying a lot. It's not a cult classic, it's a plain classic. It's popularity ranks right up there with Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Trust me, people know about it.

I didn't realize Elite had anything to do with Image.
And I think the Millennium Editions went the way of the Vista Series.

I think most people would at least be aware that there's a film titled "Night of the Living Dead" or "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" even if they haven't seen either.
They are so pervasive in our culture that there are pop-references to both of them in hundreds of sources.
Heck, even Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video (which was HUGELY popular back in the mid-80s) was a video remake of NotLD.
