Schindler's List to be recalled...
I have a friend very, very, very high up at Universal (works in sales and distribution) and apparently they are about to announce a recall on ALL (not just DVD-18s) copies of Schindler's List. This will not only be a huge dissapointment to us movie fans but a disgrace to Universal. We waited 11 years for this DVD to come out which is absolutely ridiculous and it turns out to be cheap piece of plastic in a cheap piece of cardboard for what is one of the best movies ever filmed. Universal should just sell their whole f@cking company to another that knows what they are doing. And Spieldberg is supposed to be all technologically advanced and all in to knowing his shit, yet he provides us with a movie 11 years late on a dvd format of the early 90's (flipper to say the least) with recycled cardboard probably from the 40's (WWII era). Give ma freakin' break.

No idea. Of course, this is only a rumor as of now (rumors are abundant and most of the time not true) but with all the bad reviews people have been submitting on forums like these and on amazon, it wouldn't surprise me if they do recall the dvd.

A majority of the copies have playback issues. This does however depend on which dvd player you use. Some people have playback issues with scenes skipping or complete disk errors (unplayable) yet you take the same copy and play it in another dvd player and it works fine.

With all of the dvds already shipped out and sold, plus the advertising, it wouldn't make financial sense for Universal to do a recall unless something is defective. I mean, I'll be happy if it means they're going to get us a 2-disc set or something, but I see no real overall reason for a major recall. They'll just fix it with a better release on down the line in a few years.
"Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of dvds in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one."
"Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of dvds in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one."

"Spieldberg" tried desperately to release this 11 years ago. Only one thing was holding him back: There weren't DVDs yet.
on a dvd format of the early 90's

If Universal is going to announce a recall. (which I doubt) it is probably because Spielberg is PISSED OFF big time. Spielberg has done right for DVD fans before (insisting on the 80's version of ET on regular release), the Spielberg haters are just nuts.
This is probably just a rumor, but whatever.

They've done it before (Jurassic Park DTS, Back To The Future 2 & 3) so I wouldn't be surprised.

I have yet to purchase BTTF since I can't identify it at the store, and I don't want to bother hunting down Jurassic Park, my LD will hold me over.
And to keep at it, I've also got Schindler's List on LD. Until they release a two disc set that I can put in my multidisc player, that will suffice also.
Universal is pretty low on my list.

We all agree Universal is the WORST studio for the dvd format..
Whenever i see ANY release by these people I always cringe and hope for thet best..
Are they secretly being run by Michael Eisner??
