The picture WAS there literally about 5 minutes ago from the post that I'm making right now. Just picture the other EE sets, as the royal blue color. And the EE Box Set was just a royal blue package tied together with some string, since its details haven't been revealed as of yet. But from what I saw, splendid.

I don't like the blue at all. It's color scheme will totally clash with the other EE box sets. It should have been tan or something that would fit better.

Yeah, Red, Green, and Blue never work well together . . . although that combination sounds oddly familiar . . . . . .

Red, Green and Blue = RGB = the primary colors that make up the pixels of the display that you are staring at right now

I don't care if it's a common color scheme. The fact is TTT box is more of a rust/dark red color, and the FOTR box is a greenish with a bit of brown. They aren't true red or green. So some dark tan would look better with the set than blue. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. You don't like it, tough.

I got mine early and after peeling back the lembas cover I found ....

that the stupid fat Hobbit ate my EE. He is always stuffing his face, My Precious.

It could be a white cover and I would be buying this EE. The packaging it not a big deal once the lights go down and the movie starts.

Wow . . . your taking this color thing pretty serious, huh? Well, if we are being serious, then I'll give you a serious opinion.

Honestly, it would be much harder to find a good match for the "rust" and "forest green" in the browns, than it is in the blues. If you go with a lighter tan, then you are going to have too great a contrast difference, due to the higher levels of yellow in tan colors. In order to match the contrast levels, there need to be heaviers reds in the brown, which, could match the shade levels of the currently existing red and green, but would detract from the visual balance that you can get between a lighter tan and a darker red or a lighter tan and a darker green (plus it would really screw over the people with red-green-brown color blindness ).

The darker blue that they've chosen (and, once we are able to see a better portrayal of that blue, I really think that you'll be happier with it) should be able to balance out the green and the read well, while maintaining a constistant contrast level across the collection. I guarantee you that they paid someone a lot of money to come up with color values that will make for a very pleasing collection once they are all together.

Besides, the more I think about it, the more I imagine that a "Red, Green, Tan" set would look like it should be some kind of "antiqued" Christmas DVD compilation . . .

Dark tan or rust color for the ROTK wouldn't be good because all of the text on the box of the first two movies is already in a gold-like color. There would definitely be contrast color problems.
Keeping the outside text the same color/contrast as the first two would work best with blue.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
I like the blue, but you're right, it's definitely not an "earth tone" like the first two.

This sounds pretty homoerotic. Did I miss the part where the hobbits reveal their homosexuality and Gandalf professes his hobbit fetish?

Before you read my post, I must run the following disclaimer: I did not purchase the first two gift sets. Now:

My speculation is that the gift set will include a kiss from Peter Jackson. After the screw job of paying triple for a statuette the first two times you deserve a kiss.

Isn't anybody else stoked about the VHS edition?! <wink>

Wait a second . . . you're complaining about something that didn't affect you? I can only speak for myself, but I was quite happy pay extra in order to purchase the gift set and get the extra discs and the bookends and statue.

For that matter, I'll, likely, be just as happy to do it again this next time.

Oh . . . and it was closer to 2x than 3x the price of the regular EE . . . it's all about hunting around for the best price.

I wish the gift set would have a long pipe like Gandalf has. I mean a sack/barrel of Shire weed would be nice too. The pipe + a manual on how to blow ships out of your smoke is what I want!
