What...is...it...with...guzzlefish?!?!

I have about had it with Guzzlefish. Same problem week after week. Tried to enter "Schindler's List" in movie inventory. Waited endlessly for page to load. Wouldn't load at all. Same probs the last couple weeks. It took me at least a dozen attempts to add titles recently. Does anyone know why this keeps occurring? I don't care if it's free or not, I depend on this site to track my inventories. Hell, I would have no probs paying for the service if I could find one that was not so full of problems.

Anyone know if there is a pay site where one can keep their dvd inventory listings?

If this keeps up, I will have no choice but to switch to DVDProfiler or DVDAficiando. I do not want to re-enter 600 titles, but if they're more dependable, I'll have to, I guess.

Agree on guzzlefish... the stats keep me there though. WRT pay sites before they became one I used http://www.dvdtracker.com/ and they were great. I can only assume/hope they are the same/better now that it's a subscription service.

I sent an email about 2 weeks back asking what is going on. They said that they are in the middle of making some significant changes to their system so things would be bumpy for a while until they get everything in place and tested. I have the mail at work and I'll try to remember to copy it here tomorrow.

They've been dead balls slow for me for MONTHS now.

I put my collection in there but sometimes it takes a long long time for each page to load. I'll just keep a browser window open in the background while I do other things - I can usually enter ten discs in an hour.

Of course, now that DVD Profiler is even slower, Guzzlefish seems to be SCREAMINGLY fast.

I'm still holding out on the chance that GF gets their act together. It is my favorite dvd tracking site. Maybe I should shoot them a donation.

They really need to get their act together. Complaints and glitch reports on their forums are met with the claim of them currently working on their book database, then they'll get to working on everything else.

Yeah, add ANOTHER database while the site is so screwed up. Great idea.

Guzzlefish has been slow lately because a recent mention of them in the New York Times has dramatically increased traffic to the site and put a strain on their servers. They've been working on it and seemed to be back up to full-speed yesterday (haven't checked today).

True, the site isn't perfect, but it still has the best user interface of any of the DVD tracking options I've tried out, and they've shown a commitment to making changes and improvement in the coming months. They've finally caught up with user submissions, for instance. I plan to ride out this little bumpy patch. Can't speak for anyone else.

Guzzlefish has already been slow for me. But it's the only one of the three DVD/CD tracker programs that can track my CD collection. If DVD Profiler can track CDs, then I will stop using guzzlefish.

Guzzlefish is great in theory but the slowness of the site plus the lack of support for non Region 1 titles make it not worth the effort for me.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "stats?" Is this something very useful and if so, is it copywritten or is it something DVD Profiler (etc.) could adopt?

Same here. Actually probably closer to six months.

Back then it was the one I liked the most because I was seduced by the pretty colors. Took forever to enter the titles because pages took so long to load. I asked a harmless question about something in their forums and received blunt response from one of the creators something like "love it or don't let the door hit you in the ass".

I wasn't keen on DVDAf at first solely because it wasn't as pretty but now I greatly prefer them even in that regard. Quick, great support, friendly, simple, clean, etc.

that last line fits them like O.J.'s glove. just wait until the new dvdaf site comes alive later this year...I'll bet more than a few profilers will be knockin' on the door as well.

as far as stats...if they(Guz) cant get the stats right...whats the point? yes...I pointed that out with an example in the Times article last month. not to pick on them...but I cant use a site that sometimes screws up the genre tag. the stats would give a false impression of the actual library contents...which would make it pointless. a waste of time.

they are still a very new tracking site. go back in a year and see what improvements have been made.

I use to use Guzzlefish for the owned and wishlist but now i just use it when I get a new dvd I only use the "owned" and i use my owned and wishlist for dvd profiler. The only reason I have dvds listed there is the stats. I like that. If they improve. I might spend more time there and so on...

In addition to the personal stats mentioned by nemein, click on "Statistics" on the left side of any GF page and see stats covering the collections of all GF members

I like GF for the stats, but the errors are annoying. For whatever reason, Chow Yun Fat's numbers are tripled and Michael Keaton's have been doubled for months now. DVDAF is my primary, GF is just for fun.

Does the program chose these results for you or do you pick them yourself?

Which tracking service provides better coverage of non-Region 1 titles? They're all pretty much equal in their lack of usefulness on that front. Guzzlefish will accept multi-region titles if you submit them.

DVDAF doesn't provide any information at all about the discs in your collection other than the title and the fact that you own it. That makes them just about the least useful of all the DVD tracking options out there, as far as I'm concerned.

With their links to IMDb and Amazon they cover everything that I need and that the others offer in a format that works better for me (minus Guzzlefish's stats which I don't have an interest in).
