Cary Grant Collection - June 1

I was looking through the weekend USA today paper, found this, did a search and found nothing on it.
Warner Home Video's The Cary Grant Collection
includes: Mr. Blandings Build his Dream House, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, My Favorite Wife, Destination Tokyo, and Night and Day
49.92 in a five disc box set or 19.97 individually.
"each has been restored for dvd and includes extras; for instance, several have radio broadcasts that feature Grant."

the article also says during the month of june, cary grant will be the focus on TCM. they will play a 90-minute documentary on june 1 at 8 p.m. est, Cary Grant: A Class APart.
"it will be released next year, along with two more Grant classics, Gunga Din and Bringing Up Baby, currently being restored by the studio."

if this is a duplicate please close.

Thanks for the news! All of them are fine, and My Favorite Wife is one of his best.

Also nice news about Bringing Up Baby - I can wait if they're going to do a great restoraton job.

My favorite wife!

I absolutely love this film.
Even though I haven't seen all those films, I probably will buy the box set. Cary grant was one of my favorite movie star slash actors.

One of my favorite actors as well. $50 for five movies is not bad, but the Abbott and Costello set has me a bit spoiled.

I'll will still get it though.

Finally...Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. Great movie. If you want to see "The Money Pit" done right, get this one.

Mr.Blandings Builds his Dream House and The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer will make 5 Myrna Loy movies released to DVD in the first half of the year. Hopefully After the Thin Man and Double Wedding will come during the second half.

Though I'll probably buy this box set (the low online price should be ~$32), the only film in it that I'm really excited about is My Favorite Wife.

It just annoys me that such bad-to-mediocre films as Born to be Bad, The Howards of Virginia and Night and Day are being released on DVD in R1 while such CG classics as She Done Him Wrong, Bringing Up Baby and Holiday are still locked away in the vaults.

I'm all over this...Mr. Blandings is one of my favorites, and the other films have their merits as well.

I have long awaited Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. This is one of the funniest films I have ever seen. The rest of the collection looks great as well. Now I can hardly wait for Gunga Din.

$$$ for boxed sets is killing me, but I'll still definitely pick this up. Cary Grant defined "movie star".

DVD File just posted an announcement on this with the MSRP at $100. What is the correct MSRP?

Thanks,

Dan

I took it straight out of the USA Today. *shrugs*

I just checked it again, it says "49.92 in a five disc box set or 19.97 individually"

I saw it in the paper to but 49.92 sounds to good since there are 5 titles that are 19.97 each in the box set.

No kidding! I'm really thrilled that Warner will finally be releasing My Favorite Wife, as it's one of my favorite & most eagerly awaited films. Glad to hear about Mr. Blandings, as well. But, yeah... When so many of his mediocre films are on DVD, it's pretty hard to watch the years pass as some of the most precious gems of Cary Grant's career continue to go unreleased. I'd also love to see Bringing Up Baby, Holiday, and She Done Him Wrong make it to DVD. It would be pretty great to see Suspicion, Penny Serenade, Blonde Venus and I'm No Angel come out on DVD, too. And soon! Especially Suspicion.

I'll more than likely buy this Cary Grant box set; it's great that Warners set such a low MSRP for 5 films. I can't wait to have My Favorite Wife in my possession and in my player. Bringing Up Baby is my #1 most wanted title, so I'm glad to hear the news (good to know Gunga Din is on the way to DVD, too). Hopefully next year we'll finally get to see it in all the special edition, restored glory it deserves!

YAY!!!!
Love "Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House".
Cary Grant and his wife at the time Betsy Drake also starred in the ongoing radio series "Mr and Mrs Blandings". It didn't last long because of poor scripts.
Although I except the radio show will from "The Lux Radio Theatre" or "Screen Diractor's Playhouse". Both series did versions of the movie with Grant.

I am always pleased to read that old radio shows will be included as extras.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Both Video Business and Video Store Magazine this week mention this box set, and they both say that the set will MSRP at $49.99 and the five discs will retail individually at $19.99.

Sweet.
