Oh dear God is May going to be an expensive month.

Three discs for The Leopard. Sweet.

And did Criterion recently hire new people into their art department? The covers this year are far better than even the excellent cover art they used to produce.

Dr. Mabuse - 1.19:1 aspect ratio. "Hey, how come there are black bars on the outside of my picture???"!

Did anyone else notice that Smiles of a Summer Night is DIRECTOR APROVED!!!? It's got Bergman's signature and everything.

AND it has a Director's introduction with Bergman!!! WOW, I wonder how Criterion swung this?

marty888, those are the three that I'm definitely buying... Oh May will be painful with TONS of great releases slated, including the new Saving Private Ryan, Return of the King, X-Files Season 9, and much much more.

Isn't Berman still alive? Isn't it possible they could have called his agent and worked out a deal?

This is madness. Absolute madness. I thought Criterion could never outdo last June, until this February. But then came May 2004.

The Leopard is going to set the standard for classic film DVD releases for years.

Only five DVDs could ever excite me more (and only one of those has a snowball's chance of coming to fruition).

The only surprise is that there is no surprise. As always, Criterion does it again.

Yeah, he's still alive, but usually pretty private and hard to get for interviews.

man...after looking over all of them and checking out the specs, i'm going to want to buy all but Stray Dog...something i'll never be able to afford

Tin Drum and The Leopard are absolute musts though - both will be about $50 total from DVDPlanet, so that's not too bad....they have Scenes From a Marriage for $32.47 right now - a very decent price.

I really need to get a job. Not for improving my own self-worth... but to buy more Criterions... Dr. Mabuse, the Leopard and more Kurosawa.

Not to mention catching up on new releases like Pickup on South Street, Le Corbeau, Tunes of Glory, Ikiru... argh. Too much of a good thing... is great.

The Leopard has an MSRP of $49.95 since it's a 3-disc set - so it'll probably be around $35 retail. Not too bad, though.

Man, I want all five of these. I'll have to take a third job to pay for them, though.

What makes Criterion so special? Please forgive my newbie ignorance. Do they have more extras than other companies?
