if you paid $ for a service...then any delay in that service should be explained. it's simple common sense and good business.

Why do people insist that "it was their ISP or Host that tossed that page up there about the being back in a few minutes?"
I mean, they have two, count them, two (Many of you can do this with one hand) domains. Not one, two. Both had the SAME, IDENTICAL message.
dvdprofiler.com
intervocative.com
Two domains, same message, why would the ISP or host put up a page that says the site is down for a few minutes, mentioning dvdprofiler.com yet, you're at the intervocative domain. No, it was not a forwarding service either. Please, explain!
Also, how many days had to go by before a few minutes had expired? 5? 6? 7? Yeah, it took 7 days to change it.

Let's get some facts straight. First, Intervocative did not lie. They said they would be down temporarily . That has always been true. Temporary means not permanent.
Second, no one here paid for a service and thus is owed nothing by Intervocative. What we paid for was the full version a product. Each of you still has that product which still functions. There was never any contract for service.
Finally, the readiness of some people on this board to believe unsubstantiated and incredible rumors is mind boggling. I cannot believe some of the things I have read. There is a great need for reflection among those members.

EDIT - Let me just add
since it seems at least one person believed I was trying to put EPKJ in his place. As much as I hate the site being down, I'm going to be really sad when it comes back up and this thread dies. I've not had this much fun in ages.

When I pay for a service no matter how small it may be, I expect the truth, nothing more and nothing less.
Also, this speculation could have and should have been avoided. They should have sent out an email with a detailed explanation to all registered users. It’s simple and takes a few minutes of time. I do it anytime I need to take my site offline for anything, and I give a full detailed explanation and estimate on when service will be back. I also use a temporary page when I have to take the site off line. By doing this, I can avoid 16,000+ members getting pissed off at me and my crew and emailing me as to why they can’t get to the site.

It's starting to live again!!!!
Just went out and tried to check on new program updates and the program actually connected and checked! Tried to update profiles and the program actually checked. Got error messages about unable to load files but at least it's looking! That's more than it has been doing!

How is IVS any different than Enron? The only difference is that they're smaller. If they were larger and produced something of more vital importance we wouldn't be having this conversation - they would be seen as the villains that they are and there'd be no doubt.
But because of the trivilality of their product, and the relative size of the company (small), people seem more willing to overlook their deceit.
Stealing a pack of gum is still wrong, even if its value is only 25 cents. Lying to your customers about why you're not providing a service for which they've paid is wrong, even if it only cost 25 dollars.
I paid my registration to get updates and high(er)-res cover scans from DVDProfiler.com - I didn't stipulate the length of that contract - IVS did.
Again, I don't think we'd be having this conversation if you were paying $500 a month for the updates.

And while we're focusing on the FACTS, they also said that they'd be up in "a few minutes."
That was seven DAYS ago. Tens of thousands of minutes does not = "a few" by any measure, and that's a fact.
Second, no one here paid for a service and thus is owed nothing by Intervocative.
You only look foolish when you claim to know what "no one" else has or hasn't done - as smart a guy as you are, you can't possibly claim to know what a SINGLE PERSON is actually thinking, let alone every single human being on the planet.
I paid a one-time fee for continuing service. I expect them to hold up their end of the bargain, or issue a refund.
If the phone company turned off your telephone service, how many months would you continue to pay the bill?

They said they were down for "temporary maintenance" - that does not mean a hardware failure. That's not the same thing as "we're waiting for our ISP to ship our server back to us" - usually "temporary maintenance" means that they took the box offline for a short while (i.e. less than a day - usually just a few minutes to an hour) to change or fix something. That is not the case here.

You are misinformed. I paid for a service to receive high-res cover scans from their server, which they have not been delivering and would not tell me why for some time now.

By the way, they did perform temporary maintenance. That simply means that they were fixing something for a short while. That is what they did. Words actually have meaning, Jough.

No, Jough, I was not misinformed. When did you ever sign a service contract with IVS? Show it to us.

I paid for continuous receipt of higher-res images for the life of the product. If the product has died, fine. If IVS is going out of business, well, that's how it goes. But don't pretend that the money registered users paid was for nothing at all, and that we shouldn't expect the company to at the very least inform us as to why our service isn't working.
I never said that I signed anything with anyone. Don't put words into my mouth.
By the way, they did perform temporary maintenance. That simply means that they were fixing something for a short while. That is what they did. Words actually have meaning, Jough.
"Maintenance" means (according to the American Heritage Dictionary, but the meaning doesn't change much in other dictionaries) "The work of keeping something in proper condition; upkeep."
This is obviously NOT what happened here. They weren't performing maintenance at all (at least if their posted messages are to be believed) - they have been performing repairs.
The difference is not subtle.
Also, "a few minutes" means:
1. Amounting to or consisting of a small number.
2. Being more than one but indefinitely small in number.
It's been more than 11,000 minutes that they've been completely down so far (and they're still not back up).
Would you consider 11,000 a few? Only if you do not understand the meaning of the word.
Words have meaning, and your pedantry and illogical allegiance to IVS doesn't change their meaning.
