Thought the movie was OK, enjoyable. Not as "amazing" and "hilarious" as all the reviews/friends said.

There are often things caught on camera that aren't intended to be seen, since the director knows that it will be cut off the top or bottom of the screen, or matted out on home video. Sometimes a projectionist sets the projector wrong, or formats the screen for a 2:35 movie instead of 1:85 and then you'll end up seeing things that weren't suppossed to be there.

This happened when I saw Lost in Translation. I talked to the projectionist, he said "It's supossed to be that way," but he was, in fact, an idiot.

The IMDb claims it's Dave Grohl, but unless I'm completely misunderstanding the commentary, it's Richard Linklater. Black and Linklater have a debate as to whether or not that's technically a cameo.

I bought the movie and thought it was just OK, I wish I would have rented the movie. Jack Black bugged me thoughout the movie. I liked the kids playing Rock, but Jack rubbed me wrong the entire movie. I understand why his 1st band kicked him out.

Is this a good blind buy?

I was definately out the door early on Tuesday to buy this. One of the best films I've ever seen. I'm a fan of rock and this movie IMHO was a great tribute. I, like many other people, was a little skeptical about Jack Black being the lead, but that quickly went away. I thought he was hilarious!

Although I must say that the extras were a little on the short side. But if you watch the main behind-the-scenes featurette you can see a little of a deleted scene where the school calls Ned and Dewey lights something on fire to distract him from the phone. Looks like it would've been a funny scene.

There was also some talk in both the commentary and the featurette about the "The" in the title. Maybe they ran out of things to talk about, because I never expected the subject to come up. Apparently the original title was "The School of Rock". They even filmed the neon sign with the "The" for the opening credits. But before it was released all the official posters and other ads had it as just "School of Rock". Jack Black said that movies without "The" are more successful, like "Jaws" and "Titanic."

I've been a fan of Jack Black since back in the Tenacious D early days (well, as early as the HBO show, anyway).

I thought the School of Rock was better than I would've expected - I don't know if it's one of the best films I've ever seen, but it was a whole lot of fun, and I know if I were ten years old and watching it for the first time I would have loved it all the more.

I saw it in the theatre and bought the disc. I could see watching this one a few times.

The extras are fine. Paramount isn't really known for lots of supplements, so by their standards this is a souped-up SE.

Now, back to the DVD discussion...

For a one-disc DVD package, I say it's got some good stuff. I loved the JB/RL commentary. Still have to listen to the kid's commentary.

Loved the "Lessons" doc, pitch to Led Zeppelin, the Kid's Video Diary and JB's Video Diary.

Check out the DVD-ROM stuff too. You can view every single band in the Chalkboard History of Rock and Roll. Cool stuff.

Did anyone here actually see the Diary of Jack Black when it originally aired on MTV. I seem to recall a scene in the original airing that wasnt on the dvd. It was a scene where jack went to try on clothes and he was picking ot some new ones. Anyone else remember this?

I was thinking the same thing. He went to the Ben Sherman store. He said that they give him free stuff. Maybe Paramount didn't want to give them free advertising. That's probably why the diary on the disc was only 16 mins.

I opened my "School of Rock" DVD that I pre-ordered from DDD and there was no insert booklet.

I have NEVER seen that before, but it sounds like I'm not the only one who had that "problem."

I can't believe they didn't even put in a chapter list! Did they really ship the DVD this way?

I didn't get any guitar picks or tatoos either!

The guitar picks and tattoos were available only from Best Buy, and only if you got there very early in the day. I got to mine around 2PM and bought the second to last one.

That is bizarre.

I can't understand why they would not include an insert.

Even the cheapest crap DVD's that I own at least have a one page insert listing the chapters.

Yup. Been going on for quite some time now.

I got it from Netflix (they're getting to me quicker nowadays), watched it, loved it and bought it this morning.

I love the music that plays during the menus.

My son will get a kick out of it (after I explain to him that I don't want to hear the word "ass" emanate from his lips when it's over )

Even my Ed Wood movies have inserts!

If you read the forums a bit you'll notice a LOT of talk about inserts lately.

In fact, there's an entire sub-forum just to discuss inserts and packaging.

Some companies like Universal haven't been including inserts in their new discs (or price drop re-releases of older discs that used to have booklets) since last summer.

I agree that it's stupid and makes the disc look cheap.

And prices haven't gone down since they stopped including inserts.

Of course not. It's to save THEM money, not us.

Great Movie, I wished I had time to see all of the extras though. The JB Diary was so funny! I'll def be picking this up later in the month.
