Okay, now there is conficting news. DavisDVD.com reports that the SE will have the "extended, unrated cut" of the movie.

Part man. Part machine. All cop! MGM Home Entertainment finally brings the long-awaited special edition of RoboCop to Region 1 on June 8th. Available exclusively as part of the Robocop Trilogy box set, the seminal sci-fi action film will be released in its unrated extended cut with a brand-new high definition anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 remix. Extras will include a commentary track (with director Paul Verhoeven, producer Jon Davidson, and screenwriter Ed Neumeier), "Flesh And Steel: The Making of RoboCop" new 36-minute documentary, four deleted scenes, a 6 minute film-to-storyboard comparison (with optional commentary by Phil Tippett), two vintage featurettes, a still gallery, trailers and a TV spot. Also included with this set will be film-only reissues of Robocop 2 and Robocop 3, both with new anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby 5.1 audio. Retail for the set is $39.96. Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 will be available individually at $14.98 apiece. Click on the thumbnail for a bettr look at the packaging!

If this SE is the same one released in EVERY OTHER REGION, it'll be the extended cut. Some have branching...some do not. Either way, they all have the extended cut. I seriously doubt they'd do something differently here. I've had the r3 for a couple of years. Good stuff.

YAY!!!

*Pass out*

ugh... headache

ok, i see the point of releasing the sequels individually where the SE only comes in the box. c'mon this is marketing 101, they know the sequels ain't gonna sell very well compare with the original (not to mention being an SE will add the customer's interest even more)... so, by making the SE available ONLY in the box, we (customers/fans) will have to get the sequels too... which improve the sales of the sequels....

ok... back to the original SE... so, it's uncut eh?

*pass out again*

if the MSRP is $40 then thats a great deal in itself (even though it will probably sell for less than that). Its like buying 1 and 2 and getting the crappy third one for free. Im definately in.

Are these films really considered a trilogy? I mean, artistically speaking?

Do they have to be artistic to be considered a trilogy? That's news to me. Either way I already have the R3 version. Hope you all enjoy this boxed set. I really liked the second movie...but still haven't watched the third. I was too put off by Weller not being in it.

Because, they know that the SE of the first movie is what everyone really wants so they know they can get you to buy two movies you don't really want or don't want at all, just so you can get said movie. It's pretty clever if you ask me, as I already know I'll be throwing down for the set and I don't care for the sequel too much and hate the third one.

Someone should read the rest of the thread

I'll wait for a review to decide whether i want to hold on to my Criterion though. Better audio and video might make this worth an upgrade.

Why not keep both? That's what I did. If you care for extras, keep it around. If not....well....

You can read reviews of the discs all over the net. The disc is going to be exactly the same as the releases around the world that have been available for quite some time.

I'll have to think about this one. You have to buy the set in order to get the Robocop SE. The 2nd movie was OK and if I remember the 3rd one sucked. Since I have the Criterion, the only real reason to get this version is for the anamorphic theatricial version and the documentary.

Only chance is if I can get it real cheap around the $20-23 range.
My thoughts exactly, part two was pretty good but i couldn't sit thru the third one again, i'll probaly buy the set and sell the third version on half or ebay, i really want that special edition of the original...

Will it be 1:66 or 1:85 though? That is the question.

I e-mailed the fine folks over at DavisDVD (who posted this announcement earlier today), and asked them the same question. Hopefully, I'll hear back soon. Anyway, I reluctantly parted with my Criterion copy a few weeks ago, 'cause I knew this would be coming. Plus, the money I got from the Criterion will more than pay for the complete trilogy! w00t!

Since MGM has released the film on DVD at 1.85:1 in the rest of the world, I would imagine we'll get that, too.
