Baragin Bin

What movies have you gotten at Bargain Bins at Wal-Mart and other stores. That is personally one of my favorite parts or being a DVD collector. The only one so far that has interested me is the Truman show for 5 bucks.

Recently picked up SHAFT IN AFRICA, VICTORY, THE TOWERING INFERNO, PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, and EXORCIST III -- all at $5.50 a pop. Nearly bought STRANGE DAYS, but decided against it (I like the first half of that one, but then it kinda falls apart and devolves into a rather pedestrian and predictable action flick, albeit with some impressive production design). I wanted to pick up THE LAST SEDUCTION, but I noticed it was 1.33:1 and wasn't sure if that was the OAR. I still don't, frankly, and the packaging is no help: the back of the box for Last Seduction DVD says "formatted from its original version to fit your screen," and then right below, "presented in the original 1.33:1 format."

So I'm in knots. Love the film, but I'm waiting to buy until I can find the OAR.

Too bad that, to do it, you're supporting Wal-Mart with your consumer $.

Which isn't much better, ethically speaking, than sacrificing a newborn baby on the altar of Satan.

According to the laserdisc details on the imdb -

This title was originally intended for a theatrical release, but then released on HBO cable first. It appears that it was shot full frame with a matte of 1.66 : 1 in mind. Cropping to 1.85 : 1 would loose some picture information. The transfer is very good.
Some early copies were mislabelled "Widescreen" on the cover. There exists no widescreen version.

Is Ronin in the any of these bins? I really love that movie and had to sell it out of a need for money one time. Wish I hadn't.

Keep an eye out on Circuit City. They've had 2 sales on MGM titles where their $9.99 movies were 2 for $10. That's where I picked up mine.

I'm still waiting to find a copy of "Pretty Baby" in the sale bin at one of the two Wal-Marts I frequent, but the title hasn't appeared yet. How hit and miss is it?

Found Oliver Stone's "Wall Street" at Wal-Mart in the bargain bin. Anamorphic transfer and a great commentary from the director.

Pretty Baby and the SE of Boyz 'n the Hood are in a ~$16 2-pack at wal-mart in a special display along with some other 2-packs . Not quite bargain bin, but pretty close.
