costco has a great price on them though.

not many extras - unless you like to watch Dr. Frasier and General Hammond make fools of themselves.

I had purchased the first 4 season box sets without even watching an episode. I recently started watching them (after I watched the movie), and I must say I am totally sucked in! There are points in some of the episodes that you say "Why in the world did they do that????", but they usually resolve it in a future episode to redeem themselves. I'm in the middle of season 2 and the storyline has really evolved. I am disappointed in extras for the first 2 seasons extras, but it sounds like there are some commentaries coming.

If you love the show like I do, then yes, yes by all means, even if the first few sets aren't so great extra wise. The show is there, so I am good.

However, these are some BIG box sets, they take up a whole lot of space on the rack so you might want to check your space first.

Ive watched the first 3 sets, and they are great, I'm hooked, Ive never watched it on TV. I like how every episode is important and something you don't notice in one episode come into place in another episode... so it's really something you have to see in order. it seems each set has more extras than the next.

The most underrated sci fi TV show IMO, next to Doctor Who

Not to mention EVERY season looks amazing in its anamorphic widescreen glory + souinds great in dolby digital. I've watched the extras, but the video and sound are where its at.

Awesome... thanks for all the input. Im thinking it is worth the buy then... I really love watching the show, Sci Fi on Monday nights... I used to spend the whole eve. in front of the tube watching the 5 episodes in a row. But, i agree with you guys... I think they need to be watched in order, so you can keep track of whats going on.
Thanks agian.

Check out Amazon.ca (Canada) they seem to have sets 1-3 on sale for about $25 each... AFAIK these are the same as what you would get from Amazon.com.

YES,YES, AND YES! They are worth every penny. It is one of the best (if not the best) SciFi shows on TV today. The box sets are worth it also. Consider what you get. For only about 30-40 dollars (sometimes even cheaper) you get a vast amount of quality product. When you compare them to other box sets (cough......X-Files, ST-NG) you deffinately get your money's worth. Excellent show, excellent sets. period. For comparison, newer Stargate SG-1 box sets are constantly in the top twenty at Amazon. Even season ONE is at #254 right now. Again, just for comparison.

Yes.

Ignoring special features--
Ignoring the fact that Sci-Fi shows reruns regularly--

It's worth it just to see the show
  • Commercial-Free,
  • Higher-quality Image, and-- my personal favorite--
  • Anamorphic Widescreen

They're only going for about $30 if I had the money I'd get them as well.

The quality of the sets is really nice, and the extras on seasons 4 and 5 are great.

Can't wait for season 6 in a couple of weeks - if you wait until then Best Buy will probably have a "Buy 2 save $10, Buy 3 save $15" etc. sale
