Is the Ingmar Bergman Collection out & is it worth getting?
A few questions regarding this box set.
1: Has it officially been releases yet? I saw that Amazon says it's not available & the only B & M store I've seen it at is Borders, where I was very tempted to buy it.
2. Is this worth buying? I've only seen Persona which I dig, & I'd like to beef up my foreign/classic library, but I noticed on the Amazon feeback a lot of people are complaining about these DVDs.
Any help is appreciated.

Short Version: It's a fantastic set, but has been recalled a few days before release because 2 of the films were matted (incorrectly) when they should be full-frame. MGM plans to reissue in a couple of months.

I read that MGM recalled this set, because they were issued in an incorrect aspect ratio. You might want to wait until April 20, when the corrected version comes out.
From The Digital Bits:
It has come to our attention that the transfers utilized for the release of Ingmar Bergman's Hour of the Wolf: Special Edition DVD and Shame: Special Edition DVD are not representative of the intended theatrical presentation. In order to provide customers with the best quality product available, we are recalling the product at retail and will be releasing both films in a 1:37:1 aspect ratio on April 20, 2004. The Ingmar Bergman DVD Collection will also be available on that date. MGM Home Entertainment always strives to provide the highest standard of product and customer care. For additional information or comments, please contact our customer service at 877-646-4968.

So this is a case, opposite of the Ed Wood DVD, where even though I have a store that has this recalled set out, I should NOT buy it, & hold off until it get's corrected? It's a great looking set, so it was hard for me not to pick it up when I saw it.

Another option would be to pick it up and then just send the 2 discs into MGM for a replacement (call the customer service # to make sure this is possible).
Honestly, I think the timeframe (2 months) for a new edition is a little ambitious. I have a sneaking suspicion that Ingmar may be MIA for a while...
