If you had 50 dollars to spend..

For about $50, what would you spend it on..

Herzog/Kinski Box Set
[from Overstock]

or

Ikiru: CC
The Rules of the Game: CC
[from Amazon]

or

at a little over $56

Complete Works of Gondry, Jonze, Cunningham
and either of those CC's
[from Amazon]

I am personally feeling Ikiru and The Rules of The Game.. just wondering what is probably the best.. would all be blind buys for me, that is why I am asking.

Well, I already have the two Criterions and the Director's Series set, and they're all excellent. Naturally, I'd go for the Herzog/Kinski set, seeing as how that's the only choice left.

All excellent, but the Herzog set is more bang for the buck.

Tough choice between your first two, but I'd probably go with Herzog/Kinski.

I haven't seen any of the Herzog/Kinksi movies but after doing a bit of research, they seem to be universally well regarded as well as being the best value for your dollar. It looks like Anchor Bay did a bang up job with those movies. I'll have to check them out.

On the other hand both Ikiru and particularly Rules of the Game are great editions.

you won't go wrong with any scenario from a quality standpoint.
but i agree with the others that in terms of bang for the buck, the Herzog set offers the best value for the $50 here.

Ditto...though the Criterions are a very, very close second choice.

Just for something different I'd go for the 3 music video collections + toss in Rules of the Game

Those video collections also offer plenty of "bang for the buck." I've easily spent 3-4 hours watching and rewatching the video for "What's Up Fatlip" alone.

I have Ikiru and the Director's series, so Herzog/Kinski. I'm meaning to get that anyway, so an extra $50 would just seal the deal.

Me? I'd go with the Director's series. Some truly innovative filmmaking and great extras all around make all three titles a must own.

I've bought all the Herzog/Kinski discs individually and love all of them. Go for it! Then read Kinski's autobiography KINSKI UNCUT. It's a very life-affirming experience...

...or you could put your money back in your pocket?

Wait... not on this site!

Go with the Herzog/Kinski set. Don't own it yet, but I've seen the films, and they're all excellent.

Herzog/Kinski is best value for the money. Rules of the Game is one of the top 5 films of all times. You decide.

Ikiru and Rules of the Game, however, I would also get Herzog/Kinski... for my second $50...
