SALO DVD Authenticity Question

I know its been mentioned before, but I just wanted to keep this short. Someone asked me if they should shoot out 35+ bucks for this version of Salo. Is it legit, and why does it look different than the version people are shelling out 100s of bucks for

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...VIClosedWinner

thanks for the help.

DTS? Right...

The cover doesn't even look like a good fake.

Bootleggers shove "DTS" on everything. I bet they tattoo it on their daughters when they try to marry them off.

Edited to add: But, no, definitely not a legit release for sale there. Pretty much, any Salo under $100 is gonna be a bootleg.

FALSE!! You can get a non-R1 legit release for under $50.

But don't even pay $10 for Salo. It's not worth it.

Sorry, I neglected to use "Criterion" in my post. And, even though I own said edition, I haven't even gotten around to watching it yet. At least if I hate it, I can make more than what I paid for it back...

Ahahahahahaha,I can't believe the idiot even put 'Criterion Collection' on the cover! Then "This comes with no insert since it offers scene selection"....man I am dieing from laughter at his obviousness!

Anyone with even the faintest knowledge of what a CC dvd looks like would know that is a fake!

Speaking of which. I once saw a copy of the 'CC' release at a used collectors store. It was the original CC package front & back covers identical. Yet I was still skeptical if this was legit or not. I opened the disc up & it had a bad quality artwork on the dvd cover, which I don't recall CC doing on any of the dvds I have seen. Also it came with no insert(original CC has alittle essay from reviews I have read)...& the store wanted $30 for it. I did not pick it up & now it is gone. The store is known for selling obvious bootlegs though. I saw dvds of Finding Nemo & Freddy Vs Jason there whenthey were still in theaters,of course they all proclaimed 'DTS!!',lmao.

Anyway I am interested in seeing what this film is all about, yet do not want to waste a billion dollers of a lackluster dvd presentation(CC release is zoomed in slightly to cover up print damage/rips in scenes..& has a crappier transfer than the correct AR UK release!). Sadly I don't have PAL capabilities. So what am I to do?

Spend $30-40 and get a cheap DVD player that is regionless and handles PAL->NTSC.

Or get a DVD-ROM drive and play it on the computer you're using right now.

You can get it for a lot less than $50. $25 or so is the price for the R2 version of Salo.

I think it's worth owning for $25 for sure. I'm not sure why this film gets slammed so much. The imagery is quite powerful. That alone gives it some value. I don't think it's any more disgusting than many horror films. If properly examined through the context upon which it was created it achives it's purpose and it's a solid film.

"BUY NOW as quantities are Very limited."

"Quantity: 44 available "

usually a good indicator that it's crap.

In addition to the obviously incorrect cover.

Disgusting or not it's just crappy. I rented it just to see what it was about and gladly gave it back.

Ok... it doesn't really take much logic ... it's sealed but the seller says it has no insert. X-Ray vision??? The only way he could know that it has no insert is if he sealed it himself.

Maybe he has a copy for himself and he's selling the extra copies.

I looked at the "super sized" version of the picture in the link asianxcore posted. I looked at the back of the case.
Correct me if I am wrong, but does the bottom of the back cover show THE PG-13 RATING LOGO?!?

love the MGM Home Video label there in the bottom left hand corner as well. Aren't they the current home video rights holder anyway? It would be great if one; they could release this as well finish releasing the remaining 'Trilogy of Life' films: Canterbury Tales and Arabian Nights on DVD.

You are correct, "Parents Strongly Cautioned". Maybe he should have underlined that 2-3 hundred times.
