"I was taken to the animated section while looking for Beyond Re-Animator."
This actually happened to me too at Best Buy!

Another moment was when I walked into Suncoast asking if they had "Meet The Feebles". The clerk had a blank look on his face. So I told him it was a wild gory out of control puppet movie by Peter Jackson before he did "LOTR". He said "I don't know anything about puppet movies" and directed me to the children's section.

I always like to go into Blockbuster and ask where the all-anal section is.

I went to Circuit City to look at dvd players. A sales rep starts telling me all about them and asks me if I have video inputs in my reciever. At the time I didn't so I said no. He tells me that if I want to use a dvd player I HAVE TO buy a receiver that has video in/outputs because otherwise the picture will change from normal to dark. You just can't hook it straight up to the tv.

When X2 came out I went to Circuit City to pick it up because you could get the Wolverine Game for $4.99. They were out so I took the add to Best Buy to price match. The sales associate was confused when I tried to pm, so he brought the manager over. The manager then preceeded to tell me that since the X2 dvd, X-Men Collection Set, and Wolverine Game were all pictured next to each other in the ad, I had to buy both the X2 dvd and X-Men Collection (contains X2!) to get the game at that price.

A few weeks back at work (Target), an old guy came up to me asking me about blue-ray and DVD recorders. Then, from that, he said "You know what, they should make a VHS to DVD recorder using blue-ray! That's why I'm buying the Open Range VHS. I'm going to create that when blue ray comes out next month, and copy all these VHS to blue-ray DVD. It uses a blue laser, you know. It can increase the quality of the VHS ten times, no, a thousand times." I was nodding and holding back laughter, and he continued. "You know, we should start a business, copying VHS onto blue-ray DVD discs, and selling them for a dollar!"

The whole thing lasted about forty minutes with various topics such as his bunny ears on his TV, and how much he loves coffee.

Heh heh, I once did the exact same thing. I was acting like Mr. Know-it-all and going on and on to my friend about how he should get all the "Albert Hitchcock" movies because he's the greatest director on earth. I finally realized my mistake and felt like an idiot. I was totally red-faced when I looked at my friend and had to say, "Oops. All this time I meant to say Albert Pyun."

I was at Best Buy browsing around, and I hear a guy ask the CSR where the DVDs are. The CSR shows the guy the DVDs and he asks him if he can play those on VCR. I started laughing so ****in' hard, tears came rolling down my eyes.

Another incident at Best Buy. During school days when I didn't have any homework, I used to go to the mall a lot and we had a BB over there. So I went there like 5 times a week. Their security started suspecting me of shoplifting. I was looking for The Deer Hunter when suddenly a CSR comes over and asks me if I need any help. So I tell him what I was looking for and he goes "Is it a movie?" and I'm thinking to myself "Nah, why do you think I'm in the movie section." Dumbass CSR.

While I was at Wal-Mart shopping over the holidays, I see American History X on the shelf for 14.99 . While I'm reading the specs on the back, this old woman comes over and asks me if they have Scary Movie 3 out on DVD. The movie at that time was only out for a month, how do you expect it to come out that fast?

Stupid people.

Hehe great topic...

Standing in line to pay for my dvds when the 2 guys in front of me were discussing LOTR, I guess:

Guy 1: "Frodo's a Troll, right?"

Guy 2: "No you idiot he's a midget"

Overheard a guy at the return counter holding a copy of "The man who wasn't there": "Are you SURE you don't have this in color?"

Not dvd related but worth a mention:

10 years ago I worked in a videostore, and on busy nights I used to just roam the floor and suggest movies to my regular customers.
Some guy with 2 Chuck Norris movies under his arm asked me for help in finding a third movie to rent. I took a chance and picked up a copy of "Pulp Fiction". "Oh no thanks," the guy said, "I seen this stupid movie...The guy dies (I guess he meant Travolta) and you still see him after!!" I gave up right then and there and promptly directed my customer to a Steven Seagal movie and he was happy...

Also had a guy ask me (I swear) : "Do you have that movie with the guy who was in that other movie?"

Ahhh the memories

Not DVD, but right next to it. I was in a BBY about a year ago looking at DVD players that could play SACD too, two CSRs came over asked me if they could help. Started talking about SACDs and one of the two insisted that it stood for Sony Audio CD. Would not even consider it might mean something else...

I get requests for movies still in theaters a lot. People think that if they see a commercial for it, its out to purchase.

During December, they were promoting that Fired Up! CD, and at the end of the commercial, it says "Not sold in stores".

Needless to say, I had about 5 people in the span of two days ask me if we had it in stock. I mean, they go to the trouble of memorizing nearly half of the songs on the CD, yet the miss the voice over and text saying "Not sold in stores". And being a smartass, I would point out to customers that the commercial they watched said that.

Although one teenager insisted that it was sold in stores.

The other day some customer comes up to me asking me about Cat5 cable. I tell him we carry it in 3ft, 7ft, and 14ft. He asks me if I had any 6ft cable. I told him we only have 3 and 7 foot. He then asks me if "the 3 foot is smaller than the 7 foot". I told him "Most of the time".

I was at Best Buy in the checkout lane a while back buying Warcraft III.

Clerk: Did you have the game preordered?
Me: No.
Clerk: You know you could have saved $10 if you preordered it.
Me: How do you figure that?
Clerk: You pay $10 for the preorder and on release day, you only have to pay $39.99 instead of $49.99.

Guy next to me ask worker if they had Gilligan's Island in Widescreen.

I'm all for folks going for widescreen, but it's more along the lines of being educated on what is the productions Original aspect ratio. Besides, this is network television of the 60's.. not exactly prime material for a HD-TV.

So what are some of the stupid things you have over heard while shopping?
Yesterday at my store, a girl asked me for Friends in widescreen which shocked me. I explained that only certain shows (West Wing, ER, Angel, etc.) are shot that way.

When I was working at a video store in late 2002 I had a phone call where a customer asked me:

"Do you guys have that movie the Fast and Furious 2 yet?"

I replied "No, but I think they start filming it soon"

Priceless bit of stupidity at Wal-Mart a couple months back when Jeepers Creepers 2 was released.

Couple,

Male "Is that widescreen?"

Female " I don't know,it does'nt say"

Male "What? Look at all these dvds that say Wide or Fullscreen, what gives? It's gotta be one of them, lemme see it!" & he swipes the dvd from her, peering at the back cover appearing more & more disgruntled.

Male "It better not be widescreen,I hate it,chops off the picture!"

Female "Whatever" now disinterested "Just get it already,I love scary movies!"

Male "Fine..,it better be fullscreen!!!"

& then I heard as they wondered off a mention of "I want one of them widescreen tvs, perfect for my fullscreen dvds!"

Oh yeah,JC2 was 2:35 widescreen only & says so on the back of the box. Yet the idiot somehow did not see it. Unless they don't understand what 2:35 16.9 widescreen means?

I love when studios release WS only discs. There were so many people that asked me if POTC was available in FS. I told them no, and watched as they looked like someone killed their dog. Most still bought the dvd, but a couple were pissed and would not purchase it.

One day I was working and a guy was telling someone how ground-breaking the Matrix was (those special effects had never been done before). Ever since then I try to block out any customers' conversations unless they directly ask me a question.

Scene: Blockbuster Video

Girlfriend (to employee): We're looking for something with John Malkovich. We saw you have _Dangerous Liaisons_ but we can't think of any others.

Employee (insert the sound of grinding brainal gears; long pause; eyes averted): _Con Air_ is really good.
