I tried looking everywhere yesterday. No luck. I'll wait for the eventual re-release. No way I'm going to pay $50.00 for a DVD just to watch it. I love the film, but I can't justify that cost.

Not all of us are lucky enough to own all-region players.

Steebo-

I feel your pain. I live in the Detroit area, and I had my wife running all around town when I was at work yesterday. Nothing. She heard a bunch of "Ed Wood? No... never heard of it... computer shows it never came in." Or, the one she said she heard the most "Nope, it was recalled. We can't sell it."

Oh well. I've been DYING to see this movie, and I am contemplating spending $50 on Ebay for it, but so far I haven't been able to bring myself to that level yet. Maybe I'll try a few more sources.

Either way, I'm frustraited.

Good luck everyone else.

My BBV had two.

Since it was $30, I ended up buying them both so I could sell one to compensate for the fact that I paid too much. If I get $40 for it, I'm happy.

(As of right now, it's up to $35)

My contact called me this morning and said I could clear out (buy)the remaining 9 copies (which I did). I know I will put 3 up on ebay and may trade the remaining 6 for members of this forum who legitimately want to own the movie. Never thought I would be dumb enough to buy 10 copies over 2 days.

I want to see how well the first 3 sell on ebay.

Picked up my copy at Borders here in Austin Texas as well! I guess we Texans had a better run than most finding it! Don't know what that says, but...

Went dvd shopping the other day and while shopping looked for Ed wood. No luck anywhere, borders said that it was recalled and a new date was not available. Prob should have hit the local Blockbusters around me, but had to get back to work....

Region 1 has deleted scenes. If that's not enough, the most likely reason for the recall seems to be a rights issue related to the deleted scenes, so they may not be on future releases at all.

Not all of us are lucky enough to own all-region players.
If somebody is willing to pay $50 or more for 'Ed Wood', why wouldn't they be willing to pay roughly $100 for a Cyberhome 500 that can be hacked into a multi-region? Seems like a wise investment to me.

Again, the R1 has deleted scenes and an Easter Egg deleted scene.

The R2 (UK) version has a Spanish dub track and more subtitle options.

Well, of course i lollygagged on this one and struck out....

Wal-Mart - nope
Circuit City - nope
Best Buy - never even got it in, and they knew about the recall.
FYE: had some but pulled them and already sent them back.
Border's - Came close here, the lady i talked with said "that's odd, it says we have two but it's not on the shelf?" so she has my name to put one on hold if she can find it in the back.....but i'm not holding my breath....the only other options are Suncoast and Sam Goody, but i can't imagine they don't know about it by now, and i'm tired of calling around....oh well.

Edit to add: nada at Suncoast either, and they knew of the recall and said they never even made it to the floor.

and they are hitting $65 on ebay....friggin vultures.

Not only that, but even with an all region player, the picture quality on an NTSC TV doesn't look right, in fact it looks a bit distorted because these were intended to be played on the TV standards from their region.

It's called the law of supply and demand. By your rational, anyone who sells anything over cost (or what the public is willing to pay for it) is a vulture. Is this true?

I find it hard to believe that unless you are a communist, you would not resell something for more then what you paid for it if the opportunity presented itself.

Please answer me this question, honestly. If you had the opportunity to buy something in a store for $20 and could easily resell it for 3-4 times that or more, you would not buy every copy you could?

By your rationale, I am a vulture, and I am damn proud of it.

Listen, i'm talking about both sides...the buyers and the sellers....the Former of which are idiots. Of course i'd pick up an extra one to sell for $75 if someone is dumb enough to pay that much for it. I'm just saying that the whole frenzy that happens with this stuff is stupid. It will get rereleased, and the bottom will drop out like it always does. I was just looking forward to finally watching this movie, but i guess i'll have to wait.

so spare me the capitalist mantra and "you must be a communist" bullshit.

The reason why you are not able to get this movie is because it has been recalled in the first place, not that it had a limited release. I know it sucks that people are selling this for so much on Ebay but if Ebay was not there the copies would have been taken off the shelves anyway and out of distribution. Who knows whether or not you would have been able to find one if people were not buying 7 or 8 at a time, what I do know is that the number of Ed Wood dvds in circulation would be lower if there was no incentive for people to resell it. My reasoning is the store would eventualy be pulling their stock off the shelves and those copies would be lost but because of these so called vultures, more Ed Wood dvds have been made public.

I think you meant the "former of which" or else you killed your own argument.

so spare me the capitalist mantra and "you must be a communist" bullshit.
And spare me your bitter and jealous rant on resellers and buyers just because you couldn't get a copy of your own.

It just amazes me that whenever something "desireable" hits the market, there are always a slew of hypocrites who rip on people who buy to resell. Of course, if they had the opportunity, they would have done the same thing, but since they didn't, instead they just bitch about it.

Whatever floats your boat!

No, but I didn't try. I love the film, but it will be released eventually. I don't have the time to hassle with tracking one down, probably paying $30+ for it, when I can just wait and pick up with no hassle, and much cheaper, when it eventually comes out.

You could avoid that by getting an all-region player that supports PAL to NTSC conversion.
