Sunday, I did an Ebay BIN for $50 (one of the lucky ones back "then"). However, today I scored 2 extra at a local Borders. Sold each of them for $50. When all is said and done, I probably broke even.

Surprisingly, I did. But I promised not to say how / where I got it until Sunday. $18.99 + tax

Called from work to put one on hold at Borders in Glendale, AZ. Picked it up about 6:30 pm tonight along with Lost In Translation.

Couldn't find it at:

Borders - 2 stores
Hollywood Video
Blockbuster
Albertsons (Grocery Store)
Best Buy
Kmart

When I got to Borders, some other loser (like me) was asking, "Do you have the recalled Ed Wood DVD?" And the girl with the blue hair and face piercings said, "NO! Tsk, we sent them all back."

I got one at Borders at 19.99 and I used the 10% off coupon to make it even cheaper.

I think I will take my chances and just pick one up on ebay. The prices seem to be dropping on them as everyone floods the market. I am kind of surprised Disney hasn't tried to flex their muscle and find some reason to pull them all of of ebay.

Ed Wood

From what I have read online, and seen personally, BestBuy seems to be easy to pick up a copy of Ed Wood. I got 2 copies for 19.99 each and there were about 5 copies left (Killeen, TX).

When I asked a clerk about the recall, he said he didn't know about it, but he did say that they wouldn't get any more copies in. With all the copies floating around, that should drop the Ebay prices. I bought one on Ebay for (too much) but would have been really sad had I not been able to get one at all.

Yeah, scalping movies is way cool. Let's all go out and buy 10 copies so we can sling them like crack to less fortunate people. What about the people that legitimately want to own the movie because they appreciate the hard work that was put into making it? Idiots.

It's a DVD, not insulin, and it's a collector's market. Don't be bitter just because you didn't find a copy. And be careful about calling people idiots.

Nope.

Nothing at Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's or Blockbuster.
Haven't checked Borders yet, but the website says my local Borders has it in stock. Will probably end up checking tomorrow.

I legitimately want to own a Mickey Mantle rookie card, because I appreciate the hard work he put in as a baseball player.

But those idiots running the baseball card shop are following that damn economics law of supply and demand, and selling it for what people are actually willing to pay for it! Damn them!

Oh, wait a minute. I just remembered something. Isn't this a capitalist country? Or has the communist regime taken over?

I must admit that I haven't been following the news in a while, so I apologize for my ignorance if this country is no longer a free capitalist one. If that is the case, and the communist regime has taken over, then you are correct. The DVD scalpers are indeed idiots (and breaking the Law of Lenin at that!).

Yes.

Last Friday evening I made 3 stops to check 2 Walmarts and 3 Blockbusters. (Both Walmarts have BBs in the same shopping center).

I shouldn't have been surprised but I found one copy of Ed Wood at the BB that has the dumbest employees. Next time something like this happens I'll go there first.

Stores in Sacramento, CA are pretty dried up...

Called two Best Buys and both gave me the same story: for some reason our shipment never came in.
Called two Circuit Citys -- none in stock.
Called two Borders stores -- one said they never got their shipment, the other sold their only two copies earlier this morning.
Called Suncoast -- also sold both copies earlier this morning.
Called three Blockbusters -- the first two never had any in stock. Tried a third one (Elk Grove) and they say they've got two copies. Have them put one on hold for me. Some time between when I hung up the phone and hauled ass over there, they get a letter from Bb's corporate office telling stores to pull all copies of Ed Wood due to an unspecified "defect." uh huh... But the sales associate says he'll give it to me anyway since I drove all the way down there. It was $29.99.

But this was the highlight... called local WalMart and got granny on the line:

Me: Hi, I was calling to see if you have Ed Wood in stock.
She: Dead Wood?
Me: Uh, no, that was Ed Wood.
She: I've never heard of him. Is he a good actor?
Me: That's actually the name of the movie.
She: Oh! Well let me check the release list.
I hear the shuffling of pages. Don't want to mention that Ed Wood's a director for fear of confusing her even more.
She: It's not showing up on our release list.
I begin to think she's skimming through an old copy of Better Homes & Gardens.
Me: Okay, thanks for your time.

It's been a very loooong and interesting day today... hope everyone still has some luck finding it (other than the eBay route).
