Is this copy of Ed Wood legit?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...gename=rvi:1:1

I'm keeping this out of the other thread, cuz it is touching on a different topic.

Came across this on eBay just now, what is the story with it?

I have to say I prefer this cover, but is this legit?

Looks legit to me. That was the originally released cover. The design on the back of the case is virtually identical to the new release... just slight difference in the features arrangement, and a different quote up top. But the UPC looks legit and so does the Buena Vista logo on the plastic just above the features. I'd guess it's real. Not sure if it has the deleted scenes or not, but from a collector's point of view, it's definitely the rarer of the 2, UNLESS Buena Vista can't clear up the deleted scenes issue and sends these all back out to the market. Tough call as to which one will become common down the line or if there might even be a 3rd pressing (I'd doubt it).

Unless they released earlier or in another country with that cover, I'd say it's not.

The copy I was lucky enough to get for $29.99 has a shiny silver cover, with a different picture

That was the cover planned for the original release back in August '02. My vote's still for legit. That's an awfully quick turnaround to bootleg the back of the new DVD design, make some minor changes, and package it all nicely.

This is the "original" Ed Wood edition, before the first recall. I think the second cover is MUCH better and is the original theatrical poster.

It was actually August '02.

I can't believe they STILL haven't managed to release this yet.

Hope the third time's the charm!

Oops. Edited to correct that. Man, I can't believe it's been that long since I first ordered the damn thing. Nice to have it though. You have to figure one of the 2 currently existent versions will show up at retailers eventually. I think it would be unprecedented for a studio to do a new 3rd printing after 2 earlier mass pressings got canned.

You know, by plugging the auction on dvdtalk, you now have no chance at winning the auction

My question is, why didn't the seller put this up for sale earlier? Surely it would have gone for an even higher price...?

CuckooBoy is correct, as far as I know. There may have been different original movie posters, but the movie poster I bought looks like the one in the above post.

Probably, but I'd guess that it's from the guy's collection.

Which is to say, he had the old, uber-rare 'Ed Wood', now he has the new, better one with the deleted scenes and wants to sell the old one off, and is trying to make it sound better by emphasizing how rare it is, instead of the features that it doesn't have.

So it may have gone for a higher price, but he probably wanted the movie itself too. Now that there's a better DVD, he'll sell off that one.

Thanks for the input guys.

I have no intention on buying this version, just thought it was odd that with the 100+ auctions on eBay, I came across this.

I've got a 47 x 63 French poster with that art.
