American Splendor Easter Eggs + a Warning
just got my American Splendor DVD, and i just wanted to warn everyone that some clever fella at HBO Home Video decided that they would tape together the comic book insert (since we all know a plastic wrapping and 3 security stickers isn't enough protection these days) and for me that tape wasn't coming off as easily as one could hope and i almost ruined it. i suggest taking it very easy if you're taking it off.. or just cut it open (it's clear plastic).
i also found some easter eggs and other fun things.. as always, avoid the following if you want to find them yourself.
for the first one, go to Special Features and either highlight "HBO Films" and press down, or highlight "Play Movie" and press up. this'll highlight something in the yellow square (i couldn't figure out what it was). if you press that, you'll get the DVD credits.
the second one is better.. still in Special Features, either highlight "Play Movie" and press right, or highlight "Main Menu" and press left. this'll highlight the speaker and if you click on that you'll get a 1-minute clip about the Genuine Nerd Toby Radloff.
the third one i found completely by accident. i was in the Languages menu and i was doing something else so it was just chugging along there with some dialogue.. after a minute or so a record player appears at the bottom. when it does, highlight it by pressing left from "Main Menu". clicking on it will give you a 1-minute clip about one of the special effects in the film.
lastly, if you just keep the Special Features menu open and listen you'll get to hear this dialogue between the fast food order guy and Toby Radloff (or Judah Friedlander playing him more likely).

DVD Talk Reviewer Emeritus
There's also one on the last page of the Scene Selections. And yes, that comic book is a pain to open.
Here's my review...

here's another easter egg:
go to Special Features, then hit Downloads. in the next menu, click on Specifications. highlight Special Features in that page and hit up. the "A | S" on the coffee mug will be highlighted and if you click it you'll get a 1-minute clip about Robert Crumb.

make sure you add the egg that Jason mentioned.. here's an instruction for it to add to the database:
go to Chapters, and make your way to the last page. highlight Main Menu and press right. a box will appear and if you click on that you'll get a 1-minute clip about the vasectomy scene.

Also, here's a thread with other thoughts on the film dating back to the theatrical release:
