Should be easily found for $25.95
Less the $15 refund and that's only $10.95 for the newly upgraded anamorphic picture. Not bad.
I wasn't going to upgrade, but I probably will now.

Isn't the $15 discount off the suggested retail price (SRP)? That is, $39.95 - $15 = $24.95 rather than $15 off any street price you can get your hands on. They may offer the $15 discount when you buy direct from them.
I wish it's a $15 mail-in rebate or some sort, in which case it would really cost about $11 to upgrade.

Not that there is a way to buy direct from them. You get routed through to Amazon or DVD Planet.
My guess: A rebate coupon in the new release. You'll have to send in something with it - either the old UPC code or the old disc.

I sold mine to some Parisian boulevardier 2 weeks ago. I got enough to cover the preorder price if I bought from DVDPlanet (that's a risk, though). Good luck on your rebates, everyone.

I preordered this through Amazon with STL...it's a double dip, but a no-brainer at that.
With news of this discount/rebate, I'm even
about my purchase.
I love Criterion.

From criterionco.com:
That's $24.95 + $4.95 S&H = $29.90.
Cheapest online price is $25.97 shipped by dvdplanet.
Not exactly a discount for owners of the original DVD
After being unavailable for nearly three years, Criterion's DVD of Stanley Donen's classic spy thriller Charade is coming back in print. The Charade re-release will feature an all-new 16x9-enhanced high-definition digital transfer, in addition to all the supplements featured on the original release. The new edition will be in stores on April 6 and will retail for $39.95. Owners of Criterion's original DVD release of Stanley Donen's Charade may purchase the upcoming 16x9-enhanced re-release for $15 dollars off the suggested retail price, plus $4.95 shipping and handling for U.S. residents, by clicking here.

Yeah, I kinda figured their "discount" would be in name only.
Nice lipservice, fellas.
Oh well. At least it's being re-released. I guess I won't pay the $4 more than someone who hadn't purchased the original release, and just pick it up at DVD Planet. Maybe I'll sell my older version to make up some of the difference.

Two thoughts:
1. I don't see anything on the ordering page that actually limits it to current owners.
2. Even if it is ineffective for us, it's still more than most companies would do. So it's a nice thought.

Yeah, it's just lip-service. They can claim that they're offering a discount to "current owners" while offering the current owners a deal worse than standard retail for everybody.
I was hoping for a mail-in rebate of some kind. This is a non-deal for me.
It's more than most companies would do, because it's more deceptive than most companies would be.
I'm as big a supporter of Criterion as anybody - they consistently produce the best discs on the market - but I would rather they had not offered any kind of "deal" on this one than offer this slap-in-the-face faux deal like they have here.
I will be writing to express my displeasure.
