I sense a disturbance in the Force...talk about anticipation!
Bring on Star Wars on DVD! Now if only you were mine girl of the trigonometry class, ai ai...but I digress... |
I'll buy whatever version comes out. I'll probably hate however it's released, but I'll buy it none the less.

Originally posted by Josh Hinkle I'd prefer the SE's minus greedo shooting first. Nothing else really bothered me and I liked a lot of the new CGI shots. New CGI for the Jabba scene in ANH would be nice as well. Luke's scream as he falls down the tunnel at the end of Empire. It makes it seem as if he fell instead of jumped. Should we go on? |
Actually, I did a quick search and turned up a website that I basically agree with:
http://www.mutantreviewers.com/swse.html Pretty much dead on. |
Originally posted by evenswr See, you've already thought of a second thing. A third: Luke's scream as he falls down the tunnel at the end of Empire. It makes it seem as if he fell instead of jumped. Should we go on? The scream doesn't bother me at all. I didn't even notice that was an addition until I read people whining about it on the net. |
I will say the Wompa scene looked very good in Empire SE -- definitely the single best improvement out of all the SE's in my opinion.

Originally posted by Pants That there is what you would call a pretty standard "Lucas raped my childhood" essay. I know somebody will come in saying I can't tell Lucas what to do with his movies, and I'm not. But I can say I think they're bad ideas all I want. |
I think this is a good analysis of the changes.

If you dont like the SE's dont watch em...why must everyone bitch about every little detail nowadays...people just cant keep their big trap shut and let the people who enjoy em enjoy em...

Here's a question: If you knew that an exhaustive 12 disc set of all six Star Wars movies will be released in Spring of 2006, would you still buy the rumored 4 disc set in 2004?
|
I have another suggestion here... Remember "The Phantom Edit"?
I think many of us here have the technology to do something similar and at least replace the "Greedo shoots first" moment with the proper original scene, taken from a very good source. Most people don't realize, but the commercially available software is already good enough to make such edits. We can then burn the resulting film to DVD and that would be a perfectly acceptable solution to purists. And, to take this even one more step further, isn't it possible that some similarly edited final DVD could get pressed to silver discs? Just a thought. |
Playitagainsam: Yes. They call them "bootlegs."
And to answer Wannabe: yes, even if I knew that a 12 disc set was due in 2006, I'd still buy the 4-disc set of the OT, provided it was the ORIGINAL trilogy. |
What's the definition of "bootlegs" ?
Consider this scenario: I'm Collector X, great Star Wars fan, and reasonably wealthy. While I cherish the OT, I abhor the SE. So I tinker with all the equipment that I have, edit the official Lucas DVD, recompile it, and produce a DVD with what I consider to be the better representation of Star Wars. Then I go to a small replication plant and produce a minimum of 500 silver discs. Why do I want silver discs? Because I'm afraid that DVD-R media quality decreases over time. ...and then a friend comes along and I give him one of the 500 pressed DVDs, as a gift, and then I give some DVDs as gifts toother people, since I think they would make for great Christams/gag/birthday presents. Am I a bootlegger? I don't make a profit, and I'm simply producing a video equivalent of "fan fiction". Just that it's better than the original, just as some abridged "Reader's Digest" books are actually better than the original full-length versions. All this is academic, but I think we seriously need to reconsider the excessively use of terms like "bootleg". |
Do you have rights to distribute Star Wars? No. It doesn't matter if you don't make a profit. And the video equivalent of "fan fiction" are films like "Troops" or "Duality" that have original video and sound, not video and sound cut from someone's movie.
Closing thread for length... starting part 2. |
