What the hell is wrong with the quadrilogy
I did a search, and i noticed that alot of people are having skipping problems with the quadrilogy. Well i have 2 DVD players, on the Ps2, the alien directors cut kept skipping, and it eventualy said the disk was unreadable. then, i put it in my dvd player, and it skips ocasionally, but whats really annoying is it will play parts of scenes twice. I checked the discs and they are fine... what the hell is wrong with the quadrilogy
|
hard to say. many players are having issues with some of the discs...mostly Alien DC. it has problems on 2 of my players...plays fine on the other 2 or 3. the only people who care right now are the ones who cant enjoy it because of these problems. welcome to quality control central...."where we dont give a crap". it might be some time before you hear anything from the the studio...I'm sure they think all is well and our lense just needs cleaning.-rolleyes-
|
Christ, I was just about to start a thread about this! The only reason I bought this set was because of Aliens, and the insane extras packed onto this. Well, both the theatrical and special editions skip at the end, during the last 15 or so minutes!!!!!!
Anyone else having problems with disc three? God damn it. DDD better be good about this, unless all the discs will be like this.... And I really hate online returns, too..... |
Well, on all the discs of the movies, it always jumps to random parts, which is really really annoying
|
what players do you have.
I have not had any problems with my panasonic rp62. |
As I said in another post, no problems at all with the Quadrilogy and my Pioneer player.
I'm curious as to what the players are everyone is having probs with and if there may be some kind of connection. |
I have a Ps2, and a raite avphile 715
|
Mine play okay on my Toshiba SD-9200
|
Sounds like certain players are having issues with them. NO problems with the Malata N996.
|
i havent watched em all yet but i have watched 2 discs and had no probs on my integra.
|
I've had zero problems on either of my Pioneers or any of my computers. Seamless branching problems always seem to haunt older players. And no snobbery intended, but is a PS2 really a good way to be watching these discs? I don't have a PS2, that's why I'm asking.
|
I've had no problems playing the set on my Supercalifragilstic CX560, my Pomegrante 3576 or my Penandteller 8900. However, I did notice some severe skipping problems on my Juicemaster FX5000 and Cornholio 3000. So, I'm guessing it's a player specific problem and not necessarily the discs themselves.
|
Still plowing through my discs but no probs so far... Toshiba SD4800.
|
I have watched disc 3, Aliens DC, on my Panasonic RP-91 without any issues. That is all I have tried so far.
|
I've only had about 20 seconds of pixellation at Chapter 23 of Aliens Special edition. Otherwise, everything has been great! My player is a Pioneer 525.
|
No problems with any of the discs on my Denon DVD-1600.
|
no problems on my panasonic (and it can be very picky about what discs it plays problem free) although I would like to gripe about having to super-glue the clear plastic backing that contains the spindlefor 3 of the discs...

Cyberhome 402
I have a CyberHome 402. It's multi-region, which is why I wanted it.
Aliens grinds to halt, freezes, and sometimes skips around with the ending, no matter what the audio track. Sometimes it would help if I ejected the disc, or rewinded a little, but only briefly. It seems like that part of the movie can't be read, like it's too dense for the player. I checked the discs, and they're immaculate. Perfect. Nothing looks wrong with them. My player didn't cost a fortune, but still, this is rediculous. Plus, it's my only player.... (And, I have the same problems with Fargo.) Maybe I should check for a bios update or whatever...... hmm.... |
No probs on my Sony NS 900V. Actually I've never had a problem with discs on it ever.

Panasonic rp62 toshiba 3900 cyberhome 300 sony ns 500v an older PS2 with dvd remote to update dvd drivers. two of my players are multiregion also. Kind of pathetic huh :) |
I have watched everything already on my Toshiba SD-1600 with no problems.

Originally posted by scroll2b Wait a minute, are you too having a problem with your Cyberhome? I never had a problem with T2: Ultimate Edition, so I don't get it. It can't be seamless branching.... plus, the middle of the movie played beautifully, so I don't understand it. :( I just picked up the cyberhome so I will pop in one to test it this weekend. I will try Aliens in it. which version did you try? Directors or theatrical? |
Both versions of Aliens, with and without the commentaries. Thanks gcribbs. I appreciate it.

Haven't had skipping yet...
Again to Sony DVD player owners: Anyone have the Alien 3 SE subtitle problem? Turn subtitles OFF, as a result "Special Edition" appears onscreen during every SE scene. |

Turn subtitles OFF, as a result "Special Edition" appears onscreen during every SE scene. I have requested a replacement Quad set from Amazon because I received ALien: Directors Cut had three deep scratches on it which made the disc unplayable. Aliens won't play at all and there are three skips during the middle portion of Alien 3. |
I haven't had any problems at all so far, but I'll let you know if anything happens.
|
0 problems with the movies themselves yet... only watched Disc 2 for extras. So far so good!

Positive Update!
Okay, it wasn't the dang dvds or the Cyberhome after all. I suddenly remembered the advent of the lens cleaner, and searched for it. Finally, I was able to use it and, voilą, everything works smooth now. Except Fargo SE's ch. 25-26 on the widescreen side. But that's getting exchanged tomorrow, so......
Anyway, thanks everyone!! Remember, always keep the lens cleaner handy! |
The only thing wrong with my Quadrilogy is that I need a 5 foot long table to open the whole thing up :)
|
Well I noticed about 5-15 random seconds of pixelation throughout Alien DC , but it never stopped playing. Using a Panasonic Rp56 , going to track down a lense cleaner and see if that helps.

i think i've watched all of the extended cuts, and the only problem was a slight hiccup (not a layer change) on the alien SE.
panasonic DVD-R/RAM FWIW |

Well, Alien skips in a couple spots on my Sony player. I tried it on my Pioneer DVD Rom and it was fine. I haven't checked to see if there are any other problems.
So the big question is, what should I do about it? It's obvious this is a widespread problem. Will the studio do something? Or should I just return it to DDD and hope I get a good copy? |
I've watched the extended version of both Alien 3 & Resurrection so far, and both skipped. Resurrection skipped on a scene change, so it might have been a layer change problem. I don't recall when it happened in Alien 3, just that it did.
Oh, and the dvd player was a Philips model. |
I have avoided buying this, since I really dislike Alien 3 and Resurrection. So I'm waiting the buy Alien and Aliens in January. They will be stand-alone titles, although 2-disc sets. I am wondering if the discs will be the same discs that are in the current Quadrilogy, just packaged in different casings? I have a feeling they are. Actually, it wouldn't make sense that new transfers be done so close to the release of the Quadrilogy. I guess I just answered my own question. Still, if one has to return the movies, at least it's just the individual title as opposed to a 9-disc box set. Then you to re-watch the whole friggin' thing to make sure there aren't other areas that are misbehaving. It sounds like the studio is going to have some mega-returns from retailers (online and brick-and-mortar). I wonder how long it will be before we get some statement on this situation from the studio?
|
1) It's been discussed in another thread that the individual releases will be the same discs as in the Quadrilogy
2) Don't you usually only have to return the affected discs? Only seems like a few are having problems with a couple of the discs. If Fox does a "recall" then I'm sure they'll handle it like other studios and you only send in the problematic discs. |
I've got a question regarding the packaging of the set. I understand that sometime next month these 4 films will be released separately. I purchased the quadrilogy but don't like the packaging, the plastic housing for disc 2 and disc 7 has come completely off of the glue holding it there and the case is hard to open because it sticks to it when I try to unfold it. I am wondering if it will be a possibility to try and pay Fox to get the individual cases that these films will be released in....
