How to remove magic marker from a keep case?

I finally managed to get a copy of the OOP Short Circuit R1 DVD from eBay which is in pretty good condition, except that the previous owner wrote his/her name on the front and back of the case as well as the label side of the disc with a black felt-tip marker. Anyone know how I can get this off without damaging the case or the disc?

Is it a regular amaray?

If so, just buy a new one and save yourself the trouble.

As for the disc? I dunno, gonna have to ask someone else for that.

... I'm senile today. I have a spare case laying around here somewhere anyway. Duh!

I would like to get the name off the disc too, though. Any ideas?

I used ethanol. I got mine from my chemistry lab, I'm sure the rubbing alcohol in the store should be the same. It worked like a charm for me.

I would have suggested this too, but with one caveat: it will remove ALL ink (not just the magic marker!). If you do this, use the tips of a Q-tip on the name itself and nowhere else. Use another Q-tip to get it off. It will take off anything else on the DVD, so be careful!

Just tip the case slightly so the magic marker rolls off.

I'd suggest just replacing the keepcase.

As for the disc, certain markers are very difficult to remove, even from plastic. A used CD store I used to shop at would write a number on the center of their CDs. That shit would never come off, no matter what I tried.

I'd use some Goo Gone for the marker on the case. As for the DVD, not sure if i'd use the stuff on it or not.

Har har har :P

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think I'll hold off on using chemicals on the disc. I love this movie, so I'd hate to trash it

Who the hell writes their name on a dvd anyways? I mean seriously were they preparing for the event that it would get lost in the dvd player and have to search for it in the LAND OF LOST DVD'S? You know sorta like the Ren and Stimpy with the land of lost socks

The only reason I could possibly think of writing on the disc is just in case someone steals it. Personally I wouldn't do it as it would make it look trashy.

acetone works to clean up stuff fairly well (nail polish remover)

Lighter fluid also works but not as well.

Those same people who you met at summer camp who had their mothers sew their names into their underwear.

Quick and Easy
Buy a Dry erase marker and write over the top of the permanent marker and then wipe away. I found this out one year when friends thought it was funny to use a permenant marker on my dry erase board.. I just happened to be writing on the board with the dry erase pen and ran it over the permenant and notice it cleared away after that! I have used this trick on DVDs and their cases.. My mom used to use a permenant marker on hers..

the best thing you can use to remove marker is a giant flame. it'll melt it right off.
