I can't imagine them selling so few dvds that this won't pay off. Producing both widescreen and fullscreen editions must cost a whole lot more than just one edition, and I don't think there are gonna be so many people returning their films that it's not gonna be profitable.

When DVD was conceived, the idea was to have BOTH widescreen AND pan n scan on the SAME DISC. If space won't allow that then they can boot the pan n scan version, but this separate release crap has got to STOP!

Fullscreen DVDs are almost an insult to the advances that DVD has brought to movie watching. Disney is definitely in the right on this one.

I disagree, I think this feature was added to attract 'certain people' who would otherwise not buy the film. DVD was conceived for film lovers.

My reaction was the opposite. I just picked this up, and seeing only one version of a Disney title was sure that it must be P&S. I read the box multiple times to make sure that wasn't the case.

In this case, it's not an issue worth pursuing.

Funny, when they're releasing a MAJOR release in OAR only, they're Disney, not Di$ney. Fascinating.

I believe 98% of the people do not care if it is released in wide only, but there would be a loud out cry from the DVD junkies if it was release in 4:3 only.

I read that POTC sold 11M copies in its first week, the most sold for a live-action movie ever. Since these were all widescreen DVDs, I find this very interesting.
Democracy's overrated - I say the studios should release all movies in OAR only and ignore the wishes of the masses.

Three cheers for Disney. I don't criticize anyone for their preferences, after all, it's their hard earned money. But I do find it ironic, that people can tolerate the 1.85:1 ratio but not the 2.35:1. What makes it not make sense, is that so many 1.85:1 movies are open matte when they are full frame, vs. most 2.35:1 are P&S's to achieve FF. So in effect they are willing to tolerate the P&S more than open matte.
