i added these to my old cases of the first two movies ( they snap into the literature tabs of a regular amaray) and moved the original discs to another case.
nice jacket art DarthBong- are you going to make it avail for downloading?
i've done my own up for the first film, but its not quite that elaborate.
i just wish i'd made a good scan of the LD cover before i sold it off.
the scan i'm using from the 25th ann dvd isn't as fine as i would like

If you need the actual UPC codes for the individual films for the covers, I have them and can send them to you.

Darth,
I may take you up on that later.
i would say that my favorite back cover design so far has been by a fellow named Andrew Parmet (i believe).
i'm not sure of the source of the images, but it looks like a ship interior and in the console readout screens he has the special features (for the 25th ann disc) on the screens in a computer font.
very creative.
however i i was very impressed with what you came up with- especially the 'acid etched' area.
nicely done (style sheets?).
even better, i love the texture and the choice of lighting on the background- quite inspired.
i agree with you about the green being overdone.
i think the hue you chose for the texture bckgrd reminds me of early publicity for the film, when you still had no clue what it was about, and they weren't allowing actual pictures of the alien to get printed or shown in clips.
you just the had these random images of odd stuff making creepy associations in your head-
your design takes me back to 1979- very cool
far more interesting and appropriate than any design i've seen come from Fox in any of its video incarnations
can't claim credit for the "alienthology'.
someone over on htf suggested it
(i like it much better than Quadrilogy)

Thanks for the compliment. I was going for an Giger/Cyberpunk feel. I used alot of the colors and textures that Gigers does to a certain extent. So by you telling me it takes you back to '79 makes me feel like I did it the way I intended, thank you!

Don't quite like the font they used on the official individual releases. It looks too much like Scooby-Doo or something. Also, the cover concept doesn't quite add up. They use the iconic image for the original, based on the original poster. That's cool. But for the other three they just took shots form the movies and put a green mist around them. It doesn't match up, and in the case of Aliens just looks awful. The Queen looks like a mutant horse or something in that pic.

Why hasn't anyone done a "case logic" style box set? Each disc could be in a small slipcase inside. It would take up the least space, and it wouldn't take 30 minutes and require 3 specially trained Chinese contortionists to unfold the damn thing to take out disc #2 without the booklet falling out.

I must be the only one who loves the digipack packaging. It's fun to unfold the entire DVD set and then fold it back together. Its like a big roll of bubble tape DVD.

I just bought Aliens in the new digipak. I really like that packaging and was going to buy all 4 in those instead of the box set. But I keep reading where many people are having a problem with the quad set packaging. The plastic holders coming off, etc.
Is the 9th bonus disc really enough to warrant the box set purchase? I mean, each alien film dvd has tons of features already, does the 9th disc add anything that the other discs haven't already covered? Is anyone not having packaging problems? I'd like to buy the box set, but then again, those digipaks look very nice.

I think the 9th disc is pretty lame...unless you must have the trailers. I had the old Alien and Aliens disc and wasn't planning to upgrade, except it was on sale at Costco for $41 bucks. Too cheap to pass up.

I definately have a love/hate relationship with the Quadrillogy packaging. On one hand it looks great and sure its a sight to see folded out, but thats basically where it ends. The panel for Alien 3 (the movie and extras) has already come loose and I had to super glue the panel back on already. The same goes for Alien Resurrection. I know it probably a little more pricey, but they should've gone the way of the Indiana Jones box set, individual cases for each movie plus an individual case for the bonus disc.

The Alien Quad set is the only way to go if you ask me...the packaging is just fine for anyone used to the X-Files sets or anything like that...and the 9th disc has so much...most important is the Laserdisc Archive! Two entire laserdisc archives on one DVD plus a hour long doc and trailers and tv spots! Thats important!

My set is holding together with no problems. The plastic shrinkwrap seems to be working fine.

j/k... My set really is holding up okay... so far

as much as I love the Alien Quadrilogy content, this package flat out sucks.
As a general rule, a DVD package shouldn't be larger unfolded than the owner of said package. :P
I believe someone told me fully folded out it's 5 feet long. Insanity!

This picture is from the review of the set at The Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/alienquad09.html):

Personally, I would like to see this packaging (the book-like digipak on the right):

More discussion of the (above) Japanese packaging is in this thread:
