Stealing Netflix DVD's

Anyone ever had a problem with people stealing Netflix DVD's out of your mailbox? I think it just happened to me for the third time. The first time I know for a fact someone stole it out of my mailbox. The last two times I can't be totally sure.

Anyone else? What did you do about it (if anything)? I'm probably going to call the post office but I don't see them being much help. I guess I'll just have to start dropping my outgoing mail in those large blue public mailboxes or something. It really pisses me off though.

On a positive note, Netflix continues to impress me with their speed. I just recieved Pirates of the Caribbean already.

I've been lucky...or my mailperson just has morals. Over 2 months without a lost/stolen dvd! Maybe you should put a video camera poiting at your mailbox and see what you catch on video.

I don't think it's the mail person doing it. The first time a disk disappeared I noticed it was gone before the mail was picked up that day. I don't know the neighborhood kids so even if I caught one of them on camera it wouldn't be much help to me.

Get a lockable mail box (IMHO everyone should have one of these anyway... too much stuff comes in the mail on a regular basis that is easy to steal/misuse). WRT outgoing mail ALWAYS take it to a PO/drop box, never just leave it in your mailbox. Today it's your Netflix DVDs tomorrow it's you utility/mortgage check then before you know it your another ID theft stat (seems stealing mail was one of the main ways a ring in San Diego got their information http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/m...19idtheft.html )

I didn't even know you could get a lockable mailbox for residential use. If that's true I'll definitely get one.

They aren't necessarily pretty and certainly not cheap but they exist

http://www.mailboxes.com/category.as...tial+Mailboxes

First place that came up in a yahoo seach so I don't know anything about them/don't take it as a recommendation

Here's another one (same disclaimer ) http://www.mailguard.net/

BTW to answer your original question though I've been w/ Netflix almost since they started and haven't had any real problems (except the occasionally broken DVD) yet.

I just read on USPS.com that mail carriers will not open a locked box so it only protects mail that is delivered, not mail being sent out. Everytime something has been stolen it's been outgoing mail (that red flag might as well say "steal me!").

Now I'm wondering if I can just take mailbox that's out by the curb down and mount one on the wall by the front door. That would at least make it more difficult and risky to steal something out of it.

Yep, that's why you should always use a PO/blue drop box instead. If that's not convient for whatever reason maybe moving the box by the door is the solution. I guess it all depends if the carrier goes on foot or drives through your 'hood.

She drives at least down my street. I'll have to call and find out if I'm allowed to be a pain in the ass for her or not.

I've had so many lost/stolen netflix dvds that I had to make a report to the USPS, they gave me a confirm number and gave it to netflix, it actually stopped, then I figured dropping it off @ the post office actually cuts a day off and taping the sides of the envelope also helps.

So far I'm still lovin it, I just need to get back into the grove of watching them as they come in.

I've had neighbors' NetFlix discs delivered to my mailbox, which I promptly returned to that neighbor.
It's all about the karma, folks.

I've been with Netflix for a few months and so far have had no problems. I'm lucky in that I have great neighbors in my apartment complex, and I'm on friendly terms with my mail carrier.

I've used the service for just under a year and have had two problems. In one case, it appears that the movie was delivered to another address because they eventually made itself back to Netflix.

I seriously doubt anyone has to worry about their mail carriers stealing mail. It's the neighbors you have to worry about. It's very easy for anybody to just grab something out of a mailbox without looking suspicious. A mail carrier would be risking their job, which wouldn't be worth it unless they were just a serious criminal looking for credit cards and the like.

Stealing Netflix dvds is something I'd expect a teenager to do. When I was a freshman in highschool, my neighbor who was the same age stole magazines on his paper route for a while until he almost got caught.

You don't hafta put up the frickin red flag dude. They even did a news report on television telling people that here six months or a year ago... The mailman checks anyway.

Actually the mailman here won't take outgoing mail unless the flag is up. He just leaves it there.

Leave the outgoing discs in the blue mailboxes. In my apartment complex, I used to just drop them in the outgoing box until 2 discs were "never received" by Netflix.

no problems yet, although I was suppose to receive a DVD on the 28th that I have yet to get, I have yet to receive a DVD past the projected reception date, I live in a house apartment building where everyone walks past my exposed mail everytime they come or go, so far so good

I have to send a letter to the post master to try and get permission to move my mailbox. Let's see if someone steals the letter.

Supposing you don't have a blue USPS mailbox nearby, doesn't making a special trip just to send your DVDs out defeat one of the main purposes of Netflix (i.e. being able to do everything from the comfort of your home)?

I had this problem with a couple checks once. Someone had stolen my mail because I had left that flag up. I just take it all to the blue USPS boxes now. That sucks about someone stealing those dvds though, are you liable for them?

Mine stole like 10 discs in a row from me. Netflix was wanting to charge me like 200 bucks. I got it straightend out and cancelled. I called the post office and the lead guy said I was imagining stuff. I said why dont you imagine paying my bill then. I started renting again a month later and it stopped. I know it was the postal worked. What was weird tho is this. Sometimes my discs would disapear for 2 weeks and then netflix would get the disc back in. Like the postal worked keep it for 2 weeks to watch and then send back. Kinda crappy in my opinion.
