Well, IMO opinion the theatrical cut is still the better of two because I did not care for the inclusion of the Dallas/Brett cocoon scene after Ripley has set the Nostromo to self-destruct. Up until that scene though, both versions were equally great. Bear in mind that Ridley Scott has gone on record saying that the 1979 cut IS his director's cut.
