Bond Vol 2 and 3 in stores now.

I thought the street date for Vols 2 & 3 James Bond Sets wasn't until November 18. I've seen both sets at many stores since Friday 11/7. Among them Sam Goody's, FYE and Saturday Matinee.
It's even on sale for $87 at a local mom & pop!

I was under the impression single discs would be released? Why do set one in singles but not 2 and 3?

The Volume DVDs are on moratorium, so anything you see in stores is old stock.

But only in box set form, apparently. The only one I need is License to Kill from Vol. 1 and I dont' have any from Vol 2 or 3, so I may get them anyway.

BTW - are these remastered or with additional features from the past waves of releases?

No.

It seems odd that these aren't getting released as singles. The other box sets were.

No singles = no purchase

Same here. I was looking to buy just a handful of Bond titles in order to finish off my personal collection of favorite Bond films. What a rip…

Well, I guess it's off to eBay to get the two from vol. 2 and three from vol. 3 that I need.

Poor move on MGM's part.

Ill wait it out. No need in paying 60.00 for one dvd off ebay. Does anyone have a number or e-mail for MGM Home Video.

I feel like letting them no how i feel, and if anyone else is upset by MGM's decison, feel free to join me.

What doesnt make sence, last year when they released the first box set, they also sold them as singles.

Just a reminder to those interested in the Bond dvds, they are going into moratorium in January. So if you want them, don't wait too long. Or you could just hold off until the new versions come out in 2005.

My biggest complaint with the box set only release is that Vol. 3 only has 6 titles (one of which is Die Another Day) whereas the others have 7 titles and sells for the same price. IMO, either Vol.3 should be cheaper than Vol. 2, or Die Another Day should've been included in the 7 movie set rather than the 6 movie set.

I suppose MGM would justify that by pointing out that both are 7 disc sets. But I do agree that it is lame that the 6 title set isn't cheaper.

I sent an email to MGM, from their webpage. Of course it said due to the high volume of e-mails, they said they wont respond to all.

anyways here is the e-mail I sent, maybe ill get a responce maybe I wont.

-- I would like to voice my complaint about not re-releasing the James Bond DVD's as single DVD's

In the past, MGM has released the box sets, and the same DVD's were available to be purchased individually.

People like me, who couldn’t afford the box sets the first time around, had to purchase the movies one at a time. Or others only wanted to purchase the 007 movies that they loved individulay. This gave the consumer a choice instead of being forced to buy all the James Bond DVD’s. Now I only need 4 of the 007 movies to complete my James Bond collection.

Here is the problem that arises, to complete my collection, I would have to purchase sets 2 and 3, and be stuck with extra James Bond DVD’s that I already own.

The only solution I can turn to is Ebay, and pay up to 4 times the amount for a used, bootleg, or authentic DVD. With your marketing decision, this is what it’s going to happen to myself and other consumers.

There are more people than just me, which are in the same or similar situation. Why make the consumer purchase a $100.00 for one or two DVD’s. I feel this is a poor marketing decision by MGM, and shows that MGM is more worried about making money, than being there for the customer.

I hope you reconsider your decision, because you are going to be turning away a lot of unhappy customers.

Sincerely,

Kent B. Themmes

It would be nice to get a responce, but Im not holding my breath. If anyone is in the same boat, and wants to go in on a box set, feel free to drop me a line.

Well, if Volume 3 contains "Die Another Day", that makes it a 7-disc set just like the other two, if you include the 2nd disc.

This Tuesday will also see the movies that were recently in moratorium available seperately, right?

I only lack Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only in having the ones I really like.

The notion that MGM would only release these in the box sets, and not singles, is absolutely ridiculous. Here are a few problems I have...

1. These same titles were released a couple of years ago, which means there are many people who only got a few before they were sent to the vault. If they wanted a complete set, they would end up with multiple copies.

2. When the box sets were originally released, the titles collected together were different than the ones being released now. What if someone only had 1 or 2 of the boxes from the first release? Again, they would end up stuck with multiple copies just to complete the set.

3. Some of us only want certain titles and don't want to be forced to buy crap (A View To a Kill) in order to get something we want (OHMSS).

Now I can almost accept the above issues as the studio simply milking the consumer, however, my fourth and final issue is the one that really pisses me off...

4. Say I'm a new fan of the Bond series who had never seen a 007 flick until DAD last year. So what do I do? I pick up V.1 last fall, then in the spring I pick up DAD. Now, you're telling me that if I want a complete set, I have to buy DAD again? WTF is that?

If the 18th rolls around and I can't walk into Best Buy and pick up individual discs, MGM may become the very first member of my boycott list.

p.s. Anyone notice that the 7 discs released last year seem to be out of stock at many online retailers? So what, did MGM decide to pull these so that people might forget that any of these DVDs were ever available individually?
