For worst packaging, how could they forget the Total Recall "collectable" Mars tin which has the tendancy to roll across the floor when it falls out of its bent, dilapated cardboard stand.
I love that cute, little monkey ass tin. well...at least mine has never rolled across the floor. the cheap holder isnt bent up either.

Obviously Travers forgot that the VHS version was released one year before the non-anamorphic DVD was finally released. I don't think it was rushed at all, just released in a crappy form to make everyone double dip later.

I just read this article last night when I got the magazine. The wording in it is so confusing as to what they are referring to. "Best packaging Ever". "Good Scenes Restored on DVD". WTF?!?! How about "Best Stuff to Smoke Before Writing an Article".

Well he mentions this is available only as an import.

Must be this edition.

Well, cause and effect.

Yeah, "Desperately Seeking Susan" a rock movie!? And glad they gave props to "Hedwig and the Angry Inch". One helluva movie.

BTW, was Aaron Carter on the cover of this issue?
no Jessica Simpson with short hot pants and a vacum.

Yet another sad chapter in the decline and fall from greatness of a once great magazine to a laughable, left-wing Tiger Beat.

I was thinking that too. However, there is no way they could honestly think Drew Stuzan's nice artwork for Harry Potter deserves to be on the worst list, but the hideous Photoshop job for the Star Wars prequels belongs on the best list.

When the Led Zeppelin dvd came out, they called it the best concert dvd ever.
Just a couple months later, it doesn't even make their top 10?

They also mention how the "Tank Chase" was the best part of Temple of Doom...

And Sofia Coppola's favorite dvd is Goddard's Breathless, which isn't even out on dvd yet.

The article is a complete rush/hack job - I can't believe the amount of miss-information in it - especially for such a major publication.

One of the things I really like about any list of top DVD's is the fact that I'll disagree with a lot of it. There are certain DVD's we can all agree upon, but they are definitely few and far between, so 90% of the list is going to be hit or miss with our own favorites. TV Guide has a list of top DVD's out in the current issue too, I think. Anyone have that list to post?

It seems like they are just pulling stuff out of their ass for this list.

Then what's this? http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.c...f=pricegrabber

I haven't read the article yet, but from the choices, it looks like package refers to the whole package, not just cover art and/or case.

ugh... Fox/Lorber discs don't count.

You got me excited there for a second.

And what the hell is wrong with the Gangs of New York set? It has a Scorsese commentary and a whole bunch of worthwhile extras, awesome dts sound, and a great picture. - and they consider it the #2 worst dvd package ever? If that's the second worst package, than what does that make the Goodfellas dvd?

Gangs of New York sucks because there was no reason to split the movie itself between 2 discs. Whoever made that decision really dropped the ball.

Putting stock in Rolling Stone's opinion of DVDs is like giving credence to the rock reviews on NPR. The Rolling Stone list reminds me of the Teen Choice Awards.

Sorry to intervene on the gang bashing here, but Alien: Quadrilogy has been reviewed on a fair number of sites already, like most DVD's are before they're available to the general public (and even then... broken street dates do exist). It's not just being picked out of a hat.

Why isn't any major news publication able to put out a decent list?
Even that AFI goofs can't put out crediable lists.
DVDTALK should come up with some poll from are votes

Or hell - where is the Total Recall Baboon Ass-Planet Tin box? How about the gigantic Cylon head (I dig it, but man is it a shelf killer). What about the Terminator "Mangle your DVD box" version?
