Are you impressed by Nemo's image quality?

touting the direct from digital transfer...were you impressed with the picture? I must say its the clearest Pixar dvd I've watched....Bug's Life looked kinda grainy compared to this...Nemo almost looks HD-ish to me.

It was incredible, as always with Pixars.

Anyone else notice big glowing orange halos around Marlin and Nemo at certain points? You can also see them around Marlin and Nemo's mom, at the beginning. They look really digital to me, and I don't remember seeing them in the theater. They aren't edge-enhancement halos, but they seem as if they've been added for some kind of underwater "glow" effect.

Found it the best so far. :) better than Monsters Inc, which was more detailed with fur and stuff, but the fish just looked more crisp! :)

I remember in the theater that they "glow" a bit more in the well-lit scenes underwater (in the ocean, mind). They didn't have the same lustre in the dark scenes, nor in the fish tank or air, where they were lit from all directions.

Finding Nemo is by far the best CG movie I own for my HT. Using a 110" screen can bring out the good and bad qualities of a movie, and this movie is all good qualities. What blew me away the most were the scales on the fish. Subtle things like that make me want more Pixar movies that continue to shine :D

vice86 11-06-03 12:21 PM

Damn Steebo...my 110-150" screen is still years away...once I get into my next house. I wish I knew someone with a set up like that...I'm dying to see what movies look like on that size of screen.

PJsig08 11-06-03 01:04 PM

It's great IMO

kmac 11-06-03 01:20 PM

It was like being underwater (I'm a Scuba diver). Pixar's attention to detail was wonderful (like the strap on the back of the Scuba mask)

It made me want to plan another Scuba trip soon.

Yes! I noticed them too. Were these glows put there on purpose? They remind me of the transparent squares that surround the spaceships in the original Star Wars movies. They're annoying.

I thought it looked wonderful. I enjoyed this dvd to the max!

Like, totally to the max, gut? :D

I have to agree with Steebo. This is one of the best looking discs I've watched on my large screen, absolutely beautiful.

I saw them in a few scenes too, and it reminded me of the asteroid scene in The Empire Strikes Back where you can plainly see the boxes around the TIE fighters.

Other than that, overall the movie looks very good.

Yeah, i noticed this. it was kind distracting for a while. Id like to know what they are and if they are deliberate.

I thought the same thing when I was watching it on Saturday. I was just too lazy to start a post about it.

Not only that, but there looked like there was some pixelation when the grouper[?] fish would spiral in a circle. There was another spot on one of the menu screens..

slateef 11-06-03 02:24 PM

this is a reference dvd, plain and simple...

my new demo disc!

Menus shouldn't really count as they usually have more compression on them than the actual film.

I noticed some graininess/murkiness in a few places (not the intentional murky water stuff). I'm going to check it out in my pc to make sure it's really there. For the most part I thought it looked good on my 57 inch widescreen set.

The sound is where it really seperates itself. The bass in particular goes well into the subsonics. Anyone with a really good subwoofer that can put out good spl's at 20hz and lower is in for a treat. The best spot is when Darla is banging on the aquarium.

CPS_ Adventures 11-06-03 04:24 PM

I noticed the glows too, and occasional banding of color, such as around the base of the anemone. I put it down to equipment; perhaps my TV does not have high enough resolution? Could that be?

TomOpus 11-06-03 06:00 PM

This has already been mentioned a couple times... but the thing I love about Pixar movies are the attention to details. I really really appreciate the amount of work the artists put into all their releases.

SCHMEGGA 11-06-03 06:03 PM

I agree as well. This is THE best looking film I have yet to watch.

LBPound 11-06-03 06:08 PM

If you watch the extras, you'll know that the glow IS intentional - it's part of how they decided to depict fish in bodies of water, based on their observations. They took liberties with the depiction of fish, obviously, but the glow effect is part of their research and part of the visual style they hoped to attain.

I loved this movie in the theater & even more at home! The short cartoon "Knick Knack" is fantastic as well! Plenty of special features, plus Easter eggs. WOW!

speedy1961 11-06-03 11:51 PM

I can't wait to watch this! Hopefully this weekend once I'm unemployed!!

GMLSKIS 11-07-03 05:14 AM

I thought some parts were fantastic and others weren't up to that toy story perfection.
