Raiders of the Lost Arc "Mistake?"
I'm not sure if this would be a mistake, or just some great acting:
My wife and I were watching ROTLA on Sunday. At the end of the movie, when Indy is on the ridge with the missle launcher threatening to blow up the arc if they don't relase Marion to him, she started laughing. She made me rewind, only to see that when Belloq is calling Indy's bluff, a fly lands on his chin, then appears to walk into his mouth! Belloq never even flinches!!! We rewound twice, and even zoomed, and sure enough, neither one of us saw the fly leave his face!! Has anyone else seen this? I give kudos to the actor playing Belloq; he kept his lines perfect!!

oh no, don't give spielberg anymore ideas.
I can see the commericals now.
"coming next year, raiders of the lost ark special edition. Now with no mistakes at all!!! See indy lose his hat, see all mirrors digitally erased. And now, for the first time ever, no Flys!"

Yeah, I noticed that years ago when I was watching Raiders.
Also, as you probably already know when Ian MacKellan hits his head in Bilbo's house, that wasn't rehearsed either. He really hit his head and he kept right on acting without missing a beat. Peter Jackson liked it so much he kept it in.
Those are the type of moments when you know you've got a real pro for an actor.

That's great . . . it's the same kind of thing as the "whip and the swordsman" fight scene in Raiders.

By the way, anyone ever figure out why Indy's plane leaves his college from San Francisco in RAIDERS, but leaves his college from New York in CRUSADE? Did he move to a college that had the exact same classroom as the one he taught at in San Francisco?

I noticed this back in 1982 when my folks and I rented the movie... we musta rewound it a dozen times watching the fly appear to go into Bellouq's mouth.. too funny... "you're going to give mercenary a bad name."

The first time I saw it, I thought it was just a shrug. But subsequent views make me think there's something else to it. For those of you who didn't notice that jerk before, after you go back and see it, you won't be able to help but notice it.

Not only has the fly always been there, it was a happy accident helped by an editing trick by film editor Michael Kahn.
In an interview with Paul Freeman, the actor who played Belloq, Freeman said that a fly landed on his face during filming, then simply flew away. But Kahn cut the two frames of film where you could see the fly take off, giving the illusion that the fly went into Belloq's mouth.
If you watch closely, you can barely tell frames are missing.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
There's a great scene in Temple of Doom where Indy is taller than the sky (matte painting) behind him. Just priceless, seeing Indy's hat extend above the SKY!
I'm going to try to find it tonight and post a capture.

the 'mistake' I thought they were going to clean up for the DVD, but didn't, was when Indy moves the block out of the Well of Souls and the shadow of the block 'bounces' (it's still there).

When Indy starts to sit down, he does this strange small jerk, like he's having a back spasm or the monkey's clawing him or something. Since Harrison did some of his own stunts and he wasn't doing too well intestinally speaking (the story behind shooting the swordsman), maybe he really was in pain.
