From the same site that first broke news of Superbit and Superbit Deluxe discs....
"All existing configurations of Star Wars will go on moratorium effective immediately. Availability is subject to stock on hand. Please place your orders now"

They would have to actually exist before they could actully be OOP...
^^^^
thought you were refering to OT..
anyhow. it's possible with a set re-release when episode III comes around.

They probably will be off the market until late 2006 and/or early 2007 when they'll be re-released with the OT in the oft-rumored Deluxe Box Set.
Since the rumors are already out there regarding the OT, here's the anticipated, (but still rumored) release schedule:
November 2004 - Star Wars OT Will these be the '97 SE's, the "Original" Originals, or something in between? There may be an official announcement regarding this release from LucasFilm before the end of the year.
October-November 2005 - Star Wars Episode III, Indy 4
November 2006 and/or May 2007 (30th Anniversary of the original movie) --- Deluxe Box set collecting all six movies with possible new transition scenes.
It's quite possible that this OOP news for Eps I and II is the start of the "setup" to the Deluxe Release.

I gotta go with Joseph B here, a lot of people in the right places are pretty sure the OT is happening, and this would be the first step. A massive re-release with the OT, maybe even boxsets with a cardboard placeholder for Ep3, it could all be nothing, or it could all be smaller parts of a bigger puzzle.

Ok, for some strange reason, the scenes from the Clerks cartoon where Dante is on trial and that mysterious man in the park is talking to Randall are flashing thru my head. Especially the footage of the Jay getting shot a la JFK. Weird.
