In 2004, Blue Underground will unearth THE BLIND DEAD
I know that there is an existing Blue Underground thread, but I didn't want this to get lost in the shuffle.
According to Fangoria.com, at last night's NYC screening of "The Godfathers of Mondo" documentary (from BU's Mondo box set), BU announced some titles for next year, including a Blind Dead box set. Bill Lustig already has the rights to Amando De Ossorio's first two films, Tombs of the Blind Dead and Return of the Blind Dead (aka Return of the Evil Dead), and these will be given new anamorphic transfers (as well as a longer cut of the latter). BU also secured the rights to the 3rd film, The Ghost Galleon (aka Horror of the Zombies) and are currently working on getting the 4th and final film, Night of the Seagulls. This should be the definitive release of these Euro-cult films.

For some strange reason, I thought that you might be interested in this, gut.
BTW, speaking of the Mondo box, is it still in stock from any online vendors, or what store chains is it showing up at? My mother just came up with the idea of getting my father this set for Christmas (he saw most of the films when they were first shown theatrically, but was too cheap to shell out for the set). I told her of its limited status but I would try to track down a set for her.

Fight for Your Life is indeed mentioned on BU's website as a future release. I'm looking forward to that one, along with David Cronenberg's rather obscure film, Fast Company (Fangoria says that BU is hoping to get Cronenberg involved in the DVD
).

FFYL has been listed on the BU site for a while. I've never seen it
. cant wait! I can honestly say that BU knows how to turn me on to films I may have never seen. before them...I had not even heard of flicks like Bone and Contraband. and paying respect to gems like Django and The Prowler is a huge plus. they just make me feel game for anything. until I have a reason not to...I'll trust'em 100%.

I watched a "grey market" video tape of FFYL several years back. I'm sure you'll like it, especially given the reverent BU treatment. I agree, they are a great company, and do a great job of introducing a lot of people to films that would otherwise remain complete obscurities.

Actually, that was the one film out of the set that my father didn't get to see theatrically (did it play anywhere in the US outside of 42nd street?). I found a poor quality bootleg of Addio Zio Tom about 8 years ago, and showed it to my father, who found it very interesting (he has a keen taste in exploitation, cult and trash films that he thankfully passed down to me). Believe me, neither I nor my father have "typical" video collections. My mother, to her credit, is just very understanding and open minded.

I guess my parents are pretty cool. How many people can say that their mother has watched and liked such films as Blood Feast (my father took my mother to that film on a date, back in the 60's), Pink Flamingos, Evil Dead, etc. I owe my love of films (especially genre films) to my father's influence, god love him.

Meanwhile, my father would take me to see any movie in the theatre that I wanted (my mother rarely went to the theatre after they got rid of the smoking section), and this usually included the best (and, therefore, the worst) of what the 1980s cineplexes had to offer in horror. My father's tastes, too, are rather ecletic, and he considers Seconds and Repulsion (his girlfriend at the time ran out of the theatre in fright and nausea at the latter - he stayed in his seat until the end) to be among his very favorite films.
For all of this, though, my parents' tastes never quite stretched to the truly wild areas of cult, exploitation, and trash, and they remain confused and amused at my tastes to this day.

I have never seen any of these "Blind Dead" films, however, I have read good things about them. I am also fascinated with the Templars. So, this set is something which I am excited about. It is this type of effort which keeps me buying Blue Underground.

Now, if we can just get Blue Underground to do a "Mark of the Devil" boxed set...
