Once Upon a Time in Mexico was shot with HD cameras, but the end result still looks very cheap and video-ish, likely due to Rodriguez's rushed production schedule and improvisational directing style. He didn't spend a lot of time to get his shots right. It's all about getting as much done as quickly as possible.
The movie didn't look anywhere near as good as Attack of the Clones, nor did it look even remotely as good as Desperado, which Rodriguez shot in 35mm.
I think 28 Days Later was more successful in creating a consistent style that was appropriate for its content.

It's fun, but I have to go with "Desperado" as my favorite of the three still. Like others have said, the political plot was just wayyyyy too confusing for its own good and didn't really fit in a shoot 'em up action flick. Too many characters, too, but Depp, Banderas and DaFoe are all decent and there's a lot of good moments. It's a rental, IMHO.

I love Johny Depp so this was a "mandatory" buy for me.
On a side note I have to agree with you Sierra Disc....lately there has not been a REALLY strong action flick...mostly "rentals".

This dvd is a great package all around. Cool Slipcover, cool dvd case cover, nice looking picture disc. Plus the extras are real good & enjoyable. They are rewatchable, especially the look inside Robert's studio. All the documentaries are either: not to short or not to long, so they are not boring. GREAT purchase.
only bad thing, no Booklet.

I loved this movie a lot, and was most excited to pick it up. I am very happy with it, because it looks good, sounds good, and has really kick ass extras. Robert Rodriguez's commentary is excellent, the deleted scenes are interesting, the featurettes are actually worth watching, and I especially like the Behind the Scenes look at Troublemaker Studios.
