Raiders of the Lost Ark DVD glitch? 13:45...
Does Indy appear to be almost slowing down at 13:45? If you watch him from 13:45-13:48 it almost looks a little odd. I just want to make sure this is the film, and not the DVD. Thanks.

I looked at my disc at the time. Mine appears normal. Maybe because the camera is moving to frame the picture somewhat with the idol and the globe in the center. I would say it is the film itself and not the DVD. Hope that helps.

His speech is ok; it's just as the camera is moving between 13:45-48, if you keep your eye on Indy's face, he appears not to be moving "smoothly" -- almost like a frame is missing or something. If you re-watch this part a couple of times, you will see what I mean. It's kind of subtle. Again, just want to make sure I don't have a bad disc. Thanks again.

I was watching Temple of Doom last night with captions on and I noticed that they refer to the God that created the Sankara stones as "Siva." When I originally watched ToD I always thought they were saying Shiva.
Did they intentionally change Shiva to Siva so no one would get offended or did they actually intend it to be Siva
I just found it wierd since they used Kali in correct spelling.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Siva is a pretty common spelling. The "S" is pronouced like an "Sh".
Like with many Eastern-European names where an ending "C" will be prounounced like a "Ch".

Didn't notice what you're talking about, but I DID notice a missing frame or two in another scene. It occurs around 17:12 during the scene when Indy & Brody are meeting with the U.S. government men and are discussing about Abner Ravenwood. If you watch closely at normal playback (undetectable in a frame by frame analysis or slowmo), just as Indy moves to the left and before he is totally blocked by the thin government man's head, you will see Indy do a disappearing act for 1/100th of a second. I can only guess a single frame or two maybe is missing. This is probably a result from the digital splicing during the extensive frame by frame cleanup Paramount did on the film. If you weren't looking for it, the "skip" is hardly noticeable since the only object moving during this particular scene is Indy.
Personally, this is just nitpicking. The film looks terrific on dvd, several leagues past the old laserdisc I had. I am totally grateful to Paramount, Lucas (loved the R2D2 & C3PO injoke in Raiders), and Spielberg for bringing these classics to the masses. Here's looking forward to Indy 4 (soon before we see Indy cracking that bullwhip from his wheelchair).

did anyone else notice the small layer change in Raiders where they drop the septor down the pit and also the layer change in Temple where they are walking through the cave?

I have one WTF!? and one cinematic criticism that I noticed for the first time tonight, both in Raiders.
1) Just as they're pulling back the lid of the Well of the Souls and about to reveal the statue of Anubis(?), there is a funky blue aura/reflection on the stone they are moving. I have no idea if that was there before; it just didn't look right. It almost wanted to be like a ghost escaping or something, but it remained stationary. Very odd.
2) I was particularly annoyed with the framing when India is talking to Belloch in the bar right after the Marion incident. We have that great sihlouette of Indy except for the damn fanblades that keep poking in at the bridge of his nose. Even after several years of film class, I can't possibly see how that adds to the mise-en-scene and can only assume that they didn't think things out carefully enough when positioning the shot.

I saw the same thing on my disc (and was considering posting a question as well). I noticed the same sort of thing on my old copy of Stargate....like a split second of action where it appears that they are speeding up. I liked kid samurai's explanation (but nitpicking or not, it still irritates the hell out of me to see something that is so obviously out of place. I can understand missing frames in a movie from the 30's but not in one from the 80's).

Did anyone else have a problem at 1:51:49 of Raiders during the closing credits? Mine jumps back to chapter 16 or skips 10 seconds. Player is a Sony NS300.
Edit: I think it's just a bad disc. It had the same problem on the DVD drive in my PC.
