Schlock Films- need some education? try this!

just a reminder about this dvd that will be hitting the streets, this Tuesday. ever wondered what schlock films were all about? never seen a schlock or exploitation film...or not sure? this dvd is a great introduction into the world of weirdness. this documentary covers the best in exploitation films from the 40's to the 70's. tons of interveiws and film clips....it's obvious that director Ray Greene knows what he's talking about. it's all here....H.G. Lewis, Russ Meyer, Doris Wishman and Harry Novak...among tons of others. from Reefer Madness to Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!, many classics are broken down and studied.

I'm starting to buy more and more Something Weird titles of late, as well as a lot of other dvds dealing in this genre. it's satisfying when I'm building a section in the library....and adding new titles at a rapid pace. this dvd will help anyone understand the essential world of SCHLOCK!!!! anyway, I suggest you grab it....if not for an education....maybe just for fun.

This sounds like a good companion to go with Something Weird's Extra Weird Sampler

Another one that looks interesting is Mau Mau Sex Sex . I haven't seen either one yet, but like gutwrencher, I've started getting into some of Something Weird's catalog. I watched Violent Years/Girl Gang last night. Girl Gang (made in 1954) has helpful step-by-step instructions on ways to shoot heroin in case you're interested in starting.

The folks from Something Weird will be at the Chiller Theatre Expo this Friday thru Sunday at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel in NJ.. (They've been doing the show for over 13 years now) They carry thoudands of titles, many on DVD that are not available in stores (Image Entertainment distributes their retail discs). The SWV DVD-Rs are very entertaining, and contain many extras. You'll also find great deals there too... it's worth the trip. It doesn't take much to drop $1000 at the Something Weird table!

If you're going to be a the Chiller Theater Expo keep an eye out for our very own CineSchlock-O-Rama (Noel Gross) who will be covering the event!

Also keep an eye out for DVD Talk's very own forum member , me. Where my comic book store has a stand at every chiller convention.
